The key lies in junctioning elemental spells to your characters' stats.

Elemental spells are those associated with Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, and their more potent variants (Fira, Firaga, etc.). These spells can be junctioned to your characters' Attack and Magic stats to add elemental damage to your physical attacks and spells, respectively. Conversely, they can be junctioned to your Vitality and Magic Defense stats to provide resistance or immunity to those elements.

Offensive Elemental Junctioning:

• Exploiting Weaknesses: Most enemies in Final Fantasy VIII have elemental affinities. By identifying an enemy's weakness (e.g., a fire-based enemy being weak to ice), you can junction the corresponding elemental spell (e.g., Blizzard) to your Attack or Magic stat. This will cause your attacks to deal sificantly more damage.
• Elemental Attack: Junctioning elemental spells to your Attack stat adds that element to your physical attacks. This is a consistent way to deal extra damage, especially if the enemy is not resistant to that element.
• Elemental Magic: Junctioning elemental spells to your Magic stat enhances the power of your offensive magic spells of the same element.

Defensive Elemental Junctioning:

• Elemental Defense: Junctioning elemental spells to your Vitality or Magic Defense stats grants resistance to that element. For example, junctioning Firaga to Magic Defense will sificantly reduce damage taken from fire-based attacks.
• Elemental Immunity: With the most powerful elemental spells (like Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga), you can achieve complete immunity to that element when junctioned to Magic Defense. This is invaluable against bosses that heavily rely on a specific element.
• Status Ailments: Some elemental spells, when junctioned to status-affecting stats, can inflict elemental status ailments on enemies.
