Al Bhed Primers

Collecting all 26 Al Bhed Primers is a rewarding side quest in Final Fantasy X-2, not only for the satisfaction of completion but also for the valuable items you receive. Each Primer you find will translate one more letter of the Al Bhed language, making previously unintelligible dialogue understandable. Furthermore, for every set of five Primers you collect, you'll be rewarded with a useful item from Rin aboard the Celsius. speak with him regularly after acquiring new Primers!

Primer Locations by Chapter

Below is a comprehensive list of all 26 Al Bhed Primers, organized by the earliest chapter they can be obtained. While some can be missed if not collected in their respective chapters, many remain available in later chapters, offering some flexibility. Pay close attention to the chapter availability notes to avoid missing any!

• Al Bhed Primer I (A=E)
  • Chapter 1: Found in Besaid Village. Head to the tent where Wakka and Lulu reside. It's on the ground, near the entrance.
• Al Bhed Primer II (B=P)
  • Chapter 1: Located in the Besaid Temple. After completing the initial mission, check the main chamber. It's on the floor to the right of the main altar.
• Al Bhed Primer III (C=T)
  • Chapter 1: In the Mi'ihen Highroad, Newroad area. Look for it near the save sphere, on the ground. This one is easily overlooked if you rush through.
• Al Bhed Primer IV (D=W)
  • Chapter 1: Found in the Mushroom Rock Road, Youth League Headquarters. It's on the ground floor, near the entrance to the elevator.
• Al Bhed Primer V (E=I)
  • Chapter 1: Located in Djose Temple. After the initial events, check the main hall. It's on the floor, near the left wall.
• Al Bhed Primer VI (F=K)
  • Chapter 1: In the Moonflow, North Bank. Look for it near the dock where the Shoopuf departs.
• Al Bhed Primer VII (G=N)
  • Chapter 1: Found in Guadosalam. Enter the house on the far right side of the main path. The Primer is on the floor inside.
• Al Bhed Primer VIII (H=S)
  • Chapter 1: In the Thunder Plains. Head to the travel agency. It's on the counter inside.

  • Chapter 1: Macalania Woods, Springtime area. Found near the save sphere, on the ground.
• Al Bhed Primer X (J=R)
  • Chapter 1: Bikanel Island, Oasis. It's on the ground near the water's edge.
• Al Bhed Primer XI (K=L)
  • Chapter 1: Home, Main Hall. This Primer is on the ground floor, near the entrance to the living quarters.
• Al Bhed Primer XII (L=Y)
  • Chapter 1: Found in the Calm Lands, Travel Agency. It's on the counter inside, similar to the Thunder Plains agency.
• Al Bhed Primer XIII (M=C)
  • Chapter 1: Gagazet, Mountain Trail. Look for it on the path leading up the mountain, near the first bend.
• Al Bhed Primer XIV (N=F)
  • Chapter 1: Zanarkand Ruins, Dome. After the initial exploration, check the main chamber. It's on the floor near the large circular platform.
• Al Bhed Primer XV (O=H)
  • Chapter 2: Celsius, Bridge. This Primer is automatically given to you by Buddy after a certain story event. You cannot miss this one.
• Al Bhed Primer XVI (P=O)
  • Chapter 2: Kilika Island, Kilika Port. Look for it on the dock, near the ship that takes you to Luca.
• Al Bhed Primer XVII (Q=A)
  • Chapter 2: Luca, Number 1 Dock. Found on the ground, near the large crates.
• Al Bhed Primer XVIII (R=J)
  • Chapter 3: Mi'ihen Highroad, Oldroad. After the Chocobo Escort mission, check the ground near the travel agency. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XIX (S=M)
  • Chapter 3: Mushroom Rock Road, Precipice. This Primer is found near the edge of the cliff, overlooking the gorge. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XX (T=G)
  • Chapter 3: Djose Temple, Main Path. After the "Machine Faction" mission, check the path leading to the temple entrance. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XXI (U=B)
  • Chapter 3: Moonflow, South Bank. Look for it near the Shoopuf station, on the ground. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XXII (V=D)
  • Chapter 3: Guadosalam, Leblanc's Villa. After infiltrating the villa, check the main living room area. It's on the floor near the sofa. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XXIII (W=Z)
  • Chapter 3: Thunder Plains, North. Found near the northern exit, on the ground. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XXIV (X=X)
  • Chapter 3: Macalania Woods, Lake Macalania. This Primer is near the shore, close to the travel agency. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XXV (Y=V)
  • Chapter 3: Bikanel Island, Central Expanse. During the Cactuar Nation mission, look for it near the large rock formations. This primer is missable if you don't pick it up during Chapter 3 or 5.
• Al Bhed Primer XXVI (Z=Q)
  • Chapter 5: Zanarkand Ruins, Dome. After completing the main story events here in Chapter 5, return to the main chamber. It's on the floor, near the entrance. This is often the last Primer players find and is missable if not collected in Chapter 5.

Rin's Rewards

visit Rin on the Celsius regularly! He will reward you for every five Al Bhed Primers you collect. These rewards are often potent accessories or useful items that can give you an edge in combat or exploration. Speak to him on the bridge of the Celsius after acquiring new Primers to claim your prizes.

Common Pitfalls & Missables:

• Chapter-Specific Primers: While many primers can be picked up in later chapters, a significant number of them become permanently missable if not acquired in their initial chapter or the subsequent Chapter 5. Always check the location list carefully.
• Rin's Location: Rin is always on the bridge of the Celsius. Make it a habit to speak with him after every story mission or after collecting a new batch of primers. His rewards are valuable and should not be overlooked.
• Thorough Exploration: Al Bhed Primers are often tucked away in corners, behind objects, or on the ground in less-traveled areas. Engage in thorough exploration of every new location you visit. The "Search" command (usually the X button) can sometimes highlight them, but often they are visible to the naked eye if you're observant.
• Bikanel Island: The Bikanel Island Primer (XXV) is specifically tied to the Cactuar Nation mission. Ensure you complete this side quest and explore the Central Expanse thoroughly during Chapter 3.
• Zanarkand Ruins (XXVI): The final primer is only available in Chapter 5 after specific story events in Zanarkand. Don't assume you've collected all of them until you've returned to the Dome in Chapter 5.
