Prologue

Welcome, Sphere Hunter! The journey begins with a bang, or rather, a concert. This initial sequence serves as a tutorial for the game's combat system and introduces you to the core mechanics of dresspheres and Garment Grids. Pay close attention, as mastering these early on will make your adventure through Spira much smoother.

Concert Chaos: Mt. Gagazet - Floating Ruins

The game kicks off with Yuna, Rikku, and Paine infiltrating a Yuna concert on Mt. Gagazet. Your primary objective here is to navigate the stage and defeat the impostor Yuna. This section is largely linear, guiding you through the initial combat encounters.

Initial Combat Encounters

As soon as you gain control, you'll be thrust into battle. These early fights are designed to familiarize you with the Active Time Battle (ATB) system and the basics of dressphere swapping. Don't be afraid to experiment!

  • First Battle: You'll face a few Hypello guards. Use Yuna's Gunner dressphere to attack from a distance, and Rikku's Thief for quick physical strikes.
  • Dressphere Tutorial: The game will prompt you to change dresspheres. Practice swapping between Yuna's Gunner, Rikku's Thief, and Paine's Warrior. Notice how each dressphere grants different abilities and stat boosts.
  • Garment Grid Introduction: You'll also be introduced to the Garment Grid. For now, simply observe how changing dresspheres along the grid can activate bonuses. Don't worry about optimizing it just yet.

Navigating the Stage

Proceed forward, defeating any additional Hypello guards that appear. There are no hidden paths or complex puzzles here; simply follow the most direct route.

  • Item Collection: Keep an eye out for glowing spheres on the ground. These are often items. In this initial area, you might find a Potion or two. These are crucial for healing in battle.
  • Save Point: Before the boss fight, you'll encounter a save point. Always use save points! This is your opportunity to save your progress and prepare for the upcoming challenge.

Boss Battle: Impostor Yuna

The climax of the prologue is a confrontation with the impostor Yuna. This battle is a good test of your understanding of dresspheres and basic strategy.

  • Recommended Setup:
    • Yuna: Start as Gunner for ranged attacks.
    • Rikku: Stick with Thief for speed and item usage.
    • Paine: Use Warrior for strong physical damage.
  • Strategy:
    1. Focus your attacks on the Impostor Yuna. Her HP isn't exceptionally high, but she can deal decent damage.
    2. Utilize Rikku's Steal ability. You might be able to pilfer a useful item like a Potion or even a rare accessory from her.
    3. If a character's HP drops low, use a Potion. Don't be stingy with your early consumables.
    4. Experiment with dressphere changes during battle. For example, if you need a quick heal, Yuna can temporarily switch to a White Mage dressphere (though you won't have many options at this stage).
    5. The Impostor Yuna will occasionally summon backup. Prioritize taking out the Impostor herself, as defeating her will end the battle regardless of her summoned allies.
  • Reward: Upon defeating the Impostor Yuna, you'll receive experience points and gil, and the prologue will conclude, transitioning you to the airship, the Celsius.
