Bestiary/Enemy List
Welcome, Sphere Hunters! This comprehensive Bestiary will guide you through the myriad of fiends and foes you'll encounter across Spira. Understanding your enemies is key to mastering the Dressphere system and achieving 100% completion. This section details enemy weaknesses, resistances, common drops, and effective strategies to ensure your success in every encounter.
Understanding Enemy Data
Each entry in our Bestiary will follow a consistent format to provide you with quick, actionable information:
- HP/MP: The enemy's base health and magic points.
- Elemental Weaknesses: Elements that deal increased damage (e.g., Fire, Ice, Thunder, Water, Holy, Dark).
- Elemental Resistances: Elements that deal reduced damage.
- Status Ailment Vulnerabilities: Status effects that can be inflicted (e.g., Poison, Silence, Blind, Sleep, Confuse, Petrify, Slow, Stop, Doom).
- Status Ailment Immunities: Status effects that have no effect.
- Common Drops: Items frequently obtained after battle.
- Rare Drops: Items with a lower chance of dropping, often valuable or unique.
- Steal (Common/Rare): Items that can be stolen using the Thief's "Steal" ability.
- Location: Where the enemy can be found throughout Spira.
- Strategy: Recommended Dresspheres, abilities, and tactics for an efficient victory.
Early Game Encounters (Chapter 1-2)
These are some of the first enemies you'll face. Familiarize yourself with their patterns to conserve resources.
Pudding
- HP: ~120-150
- MP: ~10-15
- Elemental Weaknesses: Fire
- Elemental Resistances: Ice (absorbs), Thunder (absorbs), Water (absorbs)
- Status Ailment Vulnerabilities: Poison, Silence, Slow
- Status Ailment Immunities: Petrify, Confuse, Sleep, Doom
- Common Drops: Potion
- Rare Drops: Hi-Potion
- Steal (Common): Potion
- Steal (Rare): Turbo Ether
- Location: Besaid Island, Mi'ihen Highroad, Mushroom Rock Road
- Strategy: Puddings are classic elemental fiends. Equip a Black Mage Dressphere and unleash Fire spells for quick dispatch. Physical attacks are less effective due to their high magic defense. Consider using a Thief to steal a rare Turbo Ether early on for a significant MP boost.
Flan
- HP: ~180-220
- MP: ~15-20
- Elemental Weaknesses: Varies by color (e.g., Red Flan is weak to Ice, Yellow Flan to Water). Always check their elemental properties!
- Elemental Resistances: Absorbs its own element.
- Status Ailment Vulnerabilities: Slow, Blind
- Status Ailment Immunities: Petrify, Confuse, Doom
- Common Drops: Potion, Antidote
- Rare Drops: Phoenix Down
- Steal (Common): Potion
- Steal (Rare): Remedy
- Location: Kilika Island, Djose Temple, Moonflow
- Strategy: Flans are similar to Puddings but come in various elemental flavors. The key is to match your magic attacks to their weakness. If you lack the appropriate Black Mage spells, a Warrior with physical attacks can still deal decent damage, especially if you've boosted their Strength. The Gunner's Trigger Happy can also be effective if you hit their weakness.
Mid-Game Challenges (Chapter 3-4)
As you progress, enemies will become more formidable, often employing status effects or powerful attacks. Adapt your strategies accordingly.
Elemental (Various)
- HP: ~800-1200
- MP: ~50-70
- Elemental Weaknesses: Opposite element (e.g., Red Elemental is weak to Ice, Blue Elemental to Thunder).
- Elemental Resistances: Absorbs its own element.
- Status Ailment Vulnerabilities: Slow, Blind, Silence
- Status Ailment Immunities: Petrify, Confuse, Doom
- Common Drops: Ether, Ability Sphere
- Rare Drops: Star Curtain, Lunar Curtain
- Steal (Common): Ether
- Steal (Rare): Turbo Ether
- Location: Thunder Plains, Macalania Woods, Bikanel Desert
- Strategy: Elementals are larger, more potent versions of Flans. They hit harder and have higher HP. A Black Mage is essential here to exploit their elemental weaknesses. Consider having a White Mage on standby for healing, as their magic attacks can be quite damaging. The Alchemist can also be useful for mixing items to create powerful elemental attacks or defensive boosts.
Coeurl
- HP: ~1500-2000
- MP: ~80-100
- Elemental Weaknesses: None significant
- Elemental Resistances: None significant
- Status Ailment Vulnerabilities: Blind, Silence, Slow
- Status Ailment Immunities: Petrify, Confuse, Doom, Instant Death
- Common Drops: Hi-Potion, Power Sphere
- Rare Drops: Remedy, Defense Sphere
- Steal (Common): Hi-Potion
- Steal (Rare): Gold Needle
- Location: Calm Lands, Gagazet, Zanarkand Ruins
- Strategy: Coeurls are infamous for their Blaster attack, which can inflict Instant Death or Petrify. Equip accessories that grant immunity to these status effects, such as the Ribbon (rare, but worth it if you have one) or Stoneproof/Deathproof Garment Grids. A Dark Knight with Darkness can deal heavy damage, or a Warrior with Sentinel to draw attacks. Prioritize taking them down quickly.
Late Game & Optional Bosses (Chapter 5 & Beyond)
These foes will test your mastery of the Dressphere system and your team's overall strength. Prepare thoroughly!
Great Malboro
- HP: ~15,000-20,000
- MP: ~200-250
- Elemental Weaknesses: Fire (minor)
- Elemental Resistances: None significant
- Status Ailment Vulnerabilities: Slow, Blind (minor)
- Status Ailment Immunities: All other major status effects.
- Common Drops: X-Potion, Mega-Potion
- Rare Drops: Megalixir, Defense Bracer
- Steal (Common): Remedies
- Steal (Rare): Megalixir
- Location: Via Infinito (Floors 41-59), Den of Woe (optional)
- Strategy: The Great Malboro is the ultimate status effect spammer with its infamous Bad Breath. Equipping Ribbon accessories on all party members is highly recommended. If Ribbons are scarce, prioritize Ailment Proof or specific status-proof accessories like Star Pendant (Poison), White Cape (Silence), and Black Ring (Berserk). A Mascot Dressphere with its powerful abilities or a Dark Knight for consistent damage are good choices. Have a White Mage ready to cast Esuna or use Remedies if your defenses aren't perfect.
Ultima Weapon
- HP: ~99,999
- MP: ~500
- Elemental Weaknesses: None
- Elemental Resistances: All elements (minor resistance)
- Status Ailment Vulnerabilities: Slow (briefly)
- Status Ailment Immunities: All others
- Common Drops: Megalixir, Defense Bracer
- Rare Drops: Ragnarok, Adamantite
- Steal (Common): Megalixir
- Steal (Rare): Ribbon
- Location: Via Infinito (Floor 100)
- Strategy: The true final boss of the Via Infinito, Ultima Weapon is a brutal test of endurance and raw power. Maxed-out stats, especially Strength and Magic, are highly recommended. Dresspheres like Dark Knight (for Darkness), Berserker (for high damage output), or Mascot (for versatility and powerful attacks) are excellent choices. Ensure your party has auto-abilities like Auto-Haste, Auto-Protect, and Auto-Shell from Garment Grids or accessories. Utilize abilities like Dispel to remove any buffs Ultima Weapon casts on itself. This battle is a war of attrition; keep your HP high and unleash your strongest attacks consistently.
