Characters & Builds
Final Fantasy X and X-2 offer strategic freedom in character development, making fixed build guides challenging. In FFX, the Sphere Grid allows players to customize character paths, while FFX-2's Dresspheres and Garment Grids provide flexibility in combat roles. While characters often lean towards intended paths, like Yuna as a natural healer, the game encourages player choice in shaping their party.
In FFX, the Sphere Grid is central to character progression:
- Sphere Levels (SLVLs): Earned through AP, SLVLs are currency for moving across the Sphere Grid.
- Movement: 1 SLVL for untraveled paths (one node at a time), or four nodes on traveled paths.
- Spheres: Used to place or activate nodes, granting stat boosts or new abilities.
The HD Remaster includes two Sphere Grid options:
- Original Sphere Grid: Models the original, "easy" Sphere Grid from American FFX, dividing characters into specialized paths before allowing them to branch out.
- Expert Sphere Grid: Offers greater freedom, allowing any character to pursue diverse roles.
In FFX-2, Dresspheres and Garment Grids define character roles:
- Dresspheres: Represent roles or classes (e.g., Gunner, Thief, Warrior) with unique abilities and stats.
- Garment Grids: Allow characters to change Dresspheres during battle, providing strategic flexibility.
