Getting Started & Core Mechanics
The Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster plunges players into the world of Spira, a realm threatened by the colossal menace known as "Sin." This section introduces the game's background, key mechanics, and initial steps to guide new players. Understanding these core elements is essential for navigating the complex narrative and challenging gameplay.
The story begins with Tidus, a Blitzball star, mysteriously transported to Spira a thousand years in the past after his home city of Zanarkand is destroyed by Sin. Spira's people follow the teachings of Yevon, believing Sin is a punishment for relying on machina. Players will encounter various mechanics:
- Al Bhed Primers: These are crucial for understanding the Al Bhed language. One is obtained by defeating Experiment. At least 7 Al Bhed Primers can be dug up in Bikanel Desert.
- Battle Mechanics:
- Blitzball: Tidus's sport, which plays a role in the narrative.
- Dresspheres: (X-2) Allow characters to change classes and abilities.
- Garment Grid: (X-2) Used with Dresspheres to grant bonuses. The Ice Queen Garment Grid is obtained after completing a specific mission. The Horn of Plenty GG is found in a locked chest in the Central Expanse after finding the Desert Key. The Scourgebane GG is given with the Bevelle Episode Complete. The Supreme Light GG is obtained by beating the Crimson Squad.

- Drill Shot BB: Learned from Baralai by healing or damaging him ten times. This is the last chance to learn it.
- Mortar BB: Learned from Gippal when he is at low health. This is the only chance to learn it.
- Missions & Episodes:
- Bikanel Island (C113): Follow Rikku, then talk to everyone in the Excavation Camp. Nhadala will return, show her the letter to trigger the mission. Talk to the pilot and choose Western Expanse. Digging basics involve finding yellow X marks and pressing X within one minute to pass the mission.
- O'aka's Debt: O'aka has a 100,000 gil debt that must be paid by the end of Chapter 3. Selling unused equipment and stealing Gil from bosses can help.
