Besaid Island: The First Summoner
After the tumultuous events in Baaj Temple, Tidus washes ashore, disoriented and alone, on the tranquil beaches of Besaid Island. This idyllic village, nestled amidst lush greenery and ancient ruins, serves as your true introduction to the world of Spira and its inhabitants. Prepare to meet key characters, learn about the pilgrimage, and witness a pivotal moment in Yuna's journey.
Arrival and Initial Exploration
- Beach Encounter: Tidus is discovered by Wakka, the jovial captain of the Besaid Aurochs blitzball team. Follow Wakka to Besaid Village.
- Besaid Village Introduction: Upon entering the village, you'll be introduced to the core cast:
- Yuna: A young summoner embarking on her pilgrimage.
- Lulu: A stoic black mage and Yuna's guardian.
- Kimahri Ronso: A silent but fiercely loyal Ronso guardian.
- Village Exploration: Take your time to explore Besaid Village. Talk to the villagers to gather information about Spira, the threat of Sin, and the role of summoners.
- Item Shop: Purchase basic potions and equipment.
- Temple Entrance: The grand Besaid Temple is a central feature.
- Wakka's Hut: Contains a hidden chest with a Phoenix Down.
- Crusader's Lodge: Speak to the Crusaders for lore and minor items.
- Blitzball Practice: Wakka will invite Tidus to a blitzball practice session. This serves as a tutorial for the game's unique underwater sport. While not mandatory for story progression, it's a good opportunity to learn the basics.
The First Summoning: Valefor
A significant story event on Besaid Island is witnessing Yuna's first official summoning. This is a powerful and emotional moment that underscores the summoner's perilous journey.
- Event Trigger: After sufficient interaction with the villagers and the initial story beats, Yuna will perform her first summoning ritual within the Besaid Temple.
- The Aeon Valefor: You will witness Yuna summon Valefor, a majestic avian aeon. This is a key moment, establishing the bond between summoner and aeon. Valefor will be your first controllable aeon in battle, and its Overdrive, "Energy Ray," is a potent early-game attack.
Besaid Cloister of Trials
After Yuna's summoning, you will be required to complete the Besaid Cloister of Trials. This is the first of several puzzle-based challenges found within the temples of Spira, designed to test a summoner's resolve and grant access to their aeons.
- Objective: Navigate the trial by solving a series of simple puzzles involving pedestals and glyphs.
- Solution: The Besaid Cloister is straightforward.
- Take the Besaid Sphere from the pedestal.
- Place the Besaid Sphere into the recess on the door to open it.
- Inside the next room, take the Glyph Sphere from the wall.
- Place the Glyph Sphere into the recess on the right wall to reveal a symbol.
- Touch the symbol to open the final door.
- For the optional Destruction Sphere puzzle (required for the Anima Secret Aeon later), return to the room with the Glyph Sphere. Take the Glyph Sphere from the wall again. Place the Besaid Sphere into the recess where the Glyph Sphere was originally. This will reveal the Destruction Sphere. Take it and place it in the pedestal in the main chamber to unlock a chest containing a Rod of Wisdom for Yuna.
- Reward: Successfully completing the trial allows Yuna to fully bond with Valefor, making the aeon available for use in combat.
First Sinspawn Encounter & Brotherhood Sword
Following the events at the temple, the party will encounter their first major threat: a Sinspawn.
- Battle: Sinspawn Echuilles
- Location: On the path leading out of Besaid Village.
- Strategy: This is a tutorial boss. Focus on using Wakka's Blitzball attacks for ranged damage, Lulu's elemental magic (especially Thunder), and Yuna's healing. Valefor can also be summoned to deal significant damage.
- Weaknesses: Vulnerable to Thunder magic.
- Rewards: Standard Gil and AP.
- Acquiring Brotherhood: Immediately after defeating Sinspawn Echuilles, Wakka will automatically give Tidus his sword, Brotherhood. This is a story event and not an item you need to actively "find" or "grab" from a hidden location.
- Brotherhood Stats:
- Strength +5%
- Waterstrike: Inflicts Water damage with physical attacks.
- Sensor: Displays enemy HP and MP.
- Significance: Brotherhood is a powerful early-game weapon for Tidus, and its Waterstrike ability will be useful against certain enemies. It also holds sentimental value as a gift from Wakka.
