Aeons: Acquisition & Usage

Acquiring Aeons in Final Fantasy X is a significant milestone, granting you powerful allies for combat. Each Aeon is obtained by completing the trials within the temples scattered across Spira. These trials, known as Cloisters of Trials, involve intricate puzzles that test your understanding of the game's mechanics and your ability to think strategically. Successfully navigating these trials earns you the allegiance of the temple's guardian Aeon.

The first Aeon you'll likely acquire is Valefor, found in Besaid Temple. Following this, you'll encounter Ifrit in the Djose Temple, Ixion in the Thunder Plains' Macalania Temple, Shiva in the Macalania Temple, and Bahamut in the Zanarkand Ruins. Each Aeon possesses unique elemental affinities and combat styles. For instance, Ifrit is a fire-based attacker, while Shiva excels in ice magic and speed.

Using Aeons in battle is a strategic decision. When summoned, an Aeon replaces the active party members. Their HP is derived from the summoner's current HP, and they have their own distinct HP pool. If an Aeon's HP drops to zero, it is dismissed, and the summoner takes damage equal to the Aeon's remaining HP. Therefore, it's crucial to manage their health and summon them strategically, especially against bosses.

Aeons also have their own Overdrive gauges. As they deal and receive damage, their gauge fills, allowing them to unleash devastating Overdrive attacks like Valefor's 'Energy Blast' or Bahamut's 'Mega Flare.' These attacks can significantly damage or even defeat powerful enemies. Some Aeons, like Anima and the Magus Sisters, are optional and require completing specific side quests or challenges to acquire, offering even more strategic options for your party.
