The dominant culture in Spira is deeply influenced by Yevonism, a religion that centers around the worship of the deity Yevon and the belief that Sin is a divine punishment for humanity's past transgressions. The clergy, known as Yevonites, hold significant power and dictate the spiritual and often political landscape of the world.
Key races and groups inhabiting Spira include:
- Humans: The most populous race, found across various islands and cities. They are the primary adherents to Yevonism.
- Al Bhed: A technologically advanced and often ostracized race, known for their distinctive green eyes and their use of machinery, which is often frowned upon by Yevonites. They reside primarily on Bikanel Island and operate large airships.
- Guado: An elegant, long-limbed race who reside in Guadosalam and on Mt. Gagazet. They are closely tied to the Yevon clergy and are led by the Guado family, most notably Seymour.
