Paradigm Shift is the cornerstone of Final Fantasy XIII's combat system. A Paradigm is a pre-set combination of roles for your active party members (e.g., Commando/Ravager/Medic). You can create and switch between up to six different Paradigms during battle. This allows for dynamic adaptation to changing combat situations. For instance, you might start with an offensive Paradigm (Commando/Ravager/Ravager) to build the enemy's stagger gauge, then switch to a defensive Paradigm (Sentinel/Medic/Synergist) when your party needs healing or buffs, and finally transition to a balanced Paradigm (Commando/Ravager/Medic) for sustained damage and support. Effective Paradigm shifting is the single most important skill to master in FFXIII combat.
