Crafting and Gathering (Disciples of the Hand & Land)

Gathering is a core gameplay mechanic in Final Fantasy XIV, allowing players to acquire items essential for synthesis and often exclusively obtainable through gathering or the Market Board. This activity is performed by the Disciples of the Land classes. Crafting and gathering also feature Collectables, introduced in Heavensward (Patch 3.0), which can be reduced using the Aetherial Reduction ability.

Some collectable materials can be reduced using the Aetherial Reduction ability, similar to desynthesis. These specific materials cannot be traded to the House of Splendors and are rarely used in crafting. Aetherial Reduction is the sole method for obtaining aethersand, a rare crafting material, and also provides elemental crystals and clusters. The collectability rating of a material determines the yield of Aetherial Reduction, with higher rarity leading to better aethersand.
