Dynamic Encounters: FATEs & Levequests

FATEs and Levequests are essential open-world activities that provide experience, Gil, and items, especially during the leveling process. This section explains how to find and participate in these dynamic events and repeatable quests.

While dungeons and story quests are vital for progression, the open world of Final Fantasy XIV offers dynamic events and repeatable quests that are crucial for gaining experience, Gil, and crafting/gathering materials. FATEs (Full Active Time Events) are spontaneous world events, while Levequests are repeatable, instanced quests that can be undertaken by combat, crafting, and gathering classes.

FATEs (Full Active Time Events)

FATEs are dynamic, open-world events that pop up randomly in various zones. They are desed to be completed by multiple players in the area, fostering a sense of community and shared effort.

  • How they Appear: FATEs are indicated on your minimap by a pink or orange . The color often sifies the difficulty or type of FATE.
  • Types of FATEs: They vary greatly and can include:
    • Defending a location from waves of enemies.
    • Escorting a caravan or NPC.
    • Defeating a powerful boss monster.
    • Collecting specific items.
    • Participating in mini-games.
  • Rewards: Participating in FATEs grants experience points, Gil, and often Grand Company Seals (for combat classes) or special currency for regional events. Your reward is based on your contribution to the FATE.
  • Leveling Tool: FATEs are particularly effective for leveling combat classes, especially in the early to mid-game. Some zones have specific FATE chains that are popular for efficient leveling.
  • Regional Bonuses: Completing FATEs in certain zones can contribute to regional progression and unlock bonuses or special vendors.

Levequests

Levequests are instanced quests that you can pick up from Levemetes, NPCs found in most major cities and some outposts. They are repeatable and offer a reliable way to gain experience, Gil, and crafting materials.

  • Leve Allowance: You have a limited number of 'Leve Allowances' that regenerate over time (up to 100, with 3 regenerating every real-world hour). These allowances are consumed when you start a Levequest.
  • Types of Levequests:
    • Combat Levequests: For combat classes, these involve defeating specific enemies or completing objectives in a small, instanced area.
    • Crafting Levequests: For crafters, these require you to craft a specific item using materials you provide or gather.
    • Gathering Levequests: For gatherers, these involve gathering a set number of specific items from desated nodes.
  • Difficulty and Rewards: Levequests are available at various levels. Higher-level Levequests offer better rewards. You can also achieve higher 'Satisfaction' ratings (equivalent to quality in crafting) for better rewards.
  • Starting a Levequest: Speak to a Levemete, choose 'Levequests', select the type of Levequest you want, and then choose the specific quest. You'll then be teleported to an instanced area to complete it.

Strategic Use

FATEs are excellent for spontaneous leveling and can be a good way to fill time between quest objectives. Levequests are invaluable for crafters and gatherers looking to quickly level their professions or earn Gil by selling crafted items. Combat Levequests can also be useful for quickly gaining a few levels or completing daily objectives.
