Grand Companies (GCs) — Final Fantasy XIV Guide
Join one of Eorzea's three powerful military organizations, the Grand Companies, to contribute to the defense of the realm and unlock unique rewards. These factions play a sificant role in the Main Scenario Quest and offer a wealth of progression opportunities for adventurers of all levels.
Upon reaching a certain point in the Main Scenario Quest (MSQ), you'll have the opportunity to pledge your allegiance to one of the Grand Companies: the Maelstrom of Limsa Lominsa, the Order of the Twin Adder of Gridania, or the Immortal Flames of Ul'dah. Each company offers distinct benefits, including access to special gear, mounts, and unique questlines.
The Three Grand Companies:
| Grand Company | Headquarters | Leader | Color Scheme |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maelstrom | Limsa Lominsa | Admiral Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn | Blue and White |
| Order of the Twin Adder | Gridania | Kan-E-Senna | Green and Brown |
| Immortal Flames | Ul'dah | Lord Commander Raubahn Aldynn | Red and Gold |
Joining a Grand Company
You can join a Grand Company once you have completed the MSQ "The Scions of the Seventh Dawn" (level 20). You will be prompted to choose one of the three companies. Once you have chosen, you cannot change your allegiance.
Grand Company Ranks and Progression
As you complete Grand Company tasks and quests, you will earn Company Seals and increase your rank within your chosen organization. Higher ranks unlock access to better gear, more challenging missions, and special abilities.
Key Progression Elements:
- Company Seals: The primary currency earned through GC activities. Used to purchase gear, Materia, and other items.
- Rank: Your standing within the Grand Company, which increases as you earn experience and complete promotions.
- Promotion Quests: To advance to higher ranks, you'll need to complete specific promotion quests that test your combat prowess and knowledge.
Grand Company Activities and Rewards
Grand Companies offer several activities that reward you with Company Seals and other valuable items:
- Supply and Provision Missions: These daily quests involve turning in specific crafted items or gathered materials. They are an excellent source of Company Seals and experience for crafting/gathering jobs.
- Grand Company Quests: Special questlines that delve deeper into the lore and operations of your chosen company.
- Expert Deliveries: Similar to Supply Missions, but often require higher item level gear or specific crafting/gathering achievements.
- PvP (Frontline): Participating in the large-scale Frontline PvP modes earns you Company Seals and contributes to your Grand Company's efforts.
- Chocobo Raising: You can obtain a Chocobo companion and train it through your Grand Company, unlocking its combat abilities.
- GC Seals Exchange: Company Seals can be exchanged for various items, including:
- Gear (often with unique appearances)
- Materia
- Crafting materials
- Unique items like the Grand Company mount (e.g., the Stormy Cromanti for Maelstrom)
- Glamour items
Grand Company Gear and Glamour
Many Grand Company vendors sell gear with unique appearances that are highly sought after for glamour. As you rank up, you'll gain access to increasingly powerful and visually distinct armor sets and weapons. These are often a great way to fill out your Glamour Dresser early in the game.
Chocobo Companions
Once you reach a certain rank, you can enlist a Chocobo as your companion. Your Chocobo can fight alongside you, providing additional damage or healing support. You can also train your Chocobo through your Grand Company, unlocking new abilities and improving its stats.
Strategic Importance
While you can complete the game without heavily engaging with Grand Companies, they offer sificant advantages, especially for new players. The gear obtained from Grand Companies can help you bridge the gap between leveling gear and endgame equipment, and the Company Seals provide a reliable source of currency for essential items like Materia.
