Frederick, the loyal knight of Ylisse and a retainer to the royal family, is a powerful physical combatant with a focus on defense and offense. His personal skill, "Inspiration," grants adjacent allies +2 to Hit and Avoid, making him a valuable support unit on the battlefield. Frederick's base class is Armored Knight, which promotes into the Great Knight class. As an Armored Knight, he wields axes and lances and possesses high Defense and HP, making him an excellent tank capable of absorbing significant damage. Upon promoting to Great Knight, he gains access to swords as well, further increasing his offensive versatility and allowing him to benefit from skills like "Swordfaire" or "Axefaire."

Optimal builds for Frederick often involve maximizing his defensive capabilities while still allowing him to contribute significantly to offense. Training him in classes that offer high Defense and HP growths, such as General or Warrior, can further enhance his tanking abilities. Skills like "Rally Defense" or "Rally Resistance" are excellent choices for further bolstering his survivability. "Lancefaire" or "Axefaire," depending on his chosen promotion path, can significantly boost his damage output. If Frederick's stats allow for it, he can also be built into a surprisingly effective offensive unit, especially when paired with skills that enhance his critical hit rate or damage output.
