Each class in Fire Emblem Awakening comes with a set of unique skills that can be learned by units within that class. These skills are a cornerstone of character building, offering passive bonuses, active abilities, or support effects that can dramatically alter a unit's effectiveness. For example, the Myrmidon class learns the skill "Avoid +10," which increases their evasion by 10 points, making them harder to hit. Upon promoting to Swordmaster, they gain "Swordfaire," boosting their sword damage by 5 points when wielding a sword. The Cavalier class learns "Rally Speed," which grants adjacent allies +4 Speed for one turn. Promoting to Paladin grants "Canto," allowing a unit to move again after performing an action if they have movement points remaining. These skills are not only tied to the class but can also be inherited by child units, making the acquisition of specific skills a key objective in long-term strategy.

Understanding the skill lists for each class is essential for planning your unit progression. For instance, if you want a unit with high critical hit rates, you'll want to train them in classes that offer skills like "Lethality" (Assassin) or "Crit +15" (Swordmaster). If your focus is on support, skills like "Rally Luck" (Troubadour) or "Rally Resistance" (Cleric) become important. The game allows units to learn skills from their base class and their promoted class. Once a skill is learned, it can be equipped by the unit, even after they reclass. This means a unit can learn skills from multiple classes, creating incredibly versatile builds. For example, a unit could learn "Axefaire" from a Warrior and then reclass into a Paladin to benefit from both the Paladin's stats and the Warrior's damage-boosting skill. The strategic acquisition and combination of these class skills, from basic stat boosts to powerful active abilities, are vital for success against the various enemy types encountered throughout the game, including the formidable Risen.
