Training and Experience Farming Spots
While the main story chapters provide a steady stream of experience for your units, dedicated training and experience farming can be crucial for preparing for tougher challenges, especially on higher difficulties. The Somniel, your central hub, offers several opportunities for this.
The most direct method is the Training Grounds. Here, you can engage in skirmishes against training dummies or even friendly sparring matches with your own units. These battles yield experience points, though typically at a lower rate than actual combat encounters. It's a safe environment to test out new weapon proficiencies or practice specific combat maneuvers without the risk of permadeath.
Another valuable, albeit indirect, method for gaining experience is through Paralogue maps. While some Paralogues are tied to specific story events or character recruitment, others are designed as optional challenges. These maps often feature unique objectives and can be replayed if they are not tied to a specific story progression. Successfully clearing these optional Paralogues not only grants experience but also rewards you with valuable items, gold, or even new Emblem Rings, as seen with Paralogues like "Budding Talents" for Jean or "Mysterious Merchant" for Anna.
Beyond the Somniel, certain post-game content or DLC maps (if available) can offer repeatable battles with scaling difficulty, providing a consistent source of experience and resources. Keep an eye on the world map for any newly unlocked skirmish maps or special training events that appear periodically. These are often indicated by a distinct icon.
When farming experience, it's essential to consider unit deployment. Units that are underleveled or have not yet reached their full potential will benefit the most. Ensure you are rotating your units and giving everyone a chance to gain experience. Utilizing skills that grant bonus experience or pairing units with Emblems that boost experience gain can further accelerate your training efforts.
