Base Classes & Promotions
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest features a robust class system with distinct base classes that characters start in and can later promote into more powerful advanced classes. Understanding these promotions is vital for optimizing your army's performance. For instance, a unit starting as a Fighter can promote into a Warrior, gaining access to axes and bows, or a Berserker, specializing in critical hits with axes. Similarly, a Knight can become a General, a formidable defensive unit, or a Great Knight, offering more mobility and access to lances and swords. Corrin's unique Dragonstone class can promote into either a Dragon Lord or a Wyvern Lord, both aerial units with different strengths. The promotion process typically occurs at level 10 and requires a specific promotion item, such as a Master Seal for most classes or a Second Seal for reclassing. Each promotion grants significant stat boosts and unlocks new weapon proficiencies and skills. For example, promoting a Samurai to a Swordmaster grants the Swordfaire skill, increasing sword damage by 5 when wielding a sword. The choice of promotion can drastically alter a unit's role on the battlefield, so consider their base stats and potential growth paths. Some units, like Silas, a Cavalier, have strong physical growths, making promotions into classes like Great Knight or Paladin highly effective.
