Mikoto (Chapter 5)
Chapter 5, "Mikoto," presents a significant turning point in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, featuring a pivotal encounter with Queen Mikoto. This chapter is not just a narrative climax but also a tactical challenge that requires careful planning and execution. Mikoto herself is a formidable foe, wielding the powerful Yato sword and possessing high stats. Her presence on the battlefield, alongside a contingent of Hoshidan soldiers, demands a strategic approach. The primary objective is to defeat Mikoto. However, the map is fraught with peril, including enemy reinforcements and terrain that can hinder your units. It's advisable to approach Mikoto cautiously. Units with high resistance, such as Elise or Ophelia, can help mitigate her magical damage, while strong physical attackers like Xander or Silas can chip away at her considerable HP. Pay close attention to the weapon triangle; swords are effective against axes, axes against lances, and lances against swords. Mikoto's Yato is a sword, making lancers and units with high defense particularly useful for engaging her directly. Be aware of her movement range and attack range to avoid unnecessary damage. Utilizing terrain bonuses, such as forests for evasion or forts for defense, can significantly improve your units' survivability. Consider using pair-up tactics to bolster your front-line units' stats and defensive capabilities. For example, pairing Silas with a more fragile unit can provide them with much-needed protection. If you have access to any stat-boosting items, such as a Strength Ring or Defense Ring, this is an opportune moment to use them on your key offensive or defensive units. The chapter also introduces new enemy types, so adapt your strategy accordingly. Prioritize eliminating weaker units first to reduce incoming damage and create openings for your main assault on Mikoto. Do not underestimate the threat of enemy reinforcements; keep an eye on the enemy turn and be prepared to reposition your units to intercept them.
