Niles Build Guide
Niles, the resident Troubadour turned Sniper in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, is a unique unit whose effectiveness hinges on his exceptional Skill and Speed. His personal skill, Gamble, grants him a +20 bonus to critical hit chance but also a -10 penalty to hit. This duality means that building him requires a careful balance to mitigate the accuracy penalty while amplifying his critical hit potential. His innate high Skill stat is the foundation for this, making him a potent damage dealer when built correctly.
For weapon selection, the Killer Bow is an absolute must-have for Niles. Its inherent +15 critical hit bonus, when combined with his high Skill and Gamble, can result in incredibly high critical hit rates, often exceeding 70-80%. The Silver Bow is a solid alternative for raw power, especially against tougher enemies. Consider the Longbow for its increased range, allowing Niles to engage from safety, particularly useful in maps with chokepoints like those encountered in Chapter 14, "Northern Exploration."
When promoting Niles, the Sniper class is the natural and most effective choice. This promotion significantly boosts his Skill and Speed, while also granting access to the Dread Scroll, which can further enhance his critical hit capabilities. The Sniper class also provides access to the Encloser skill, which can debuff enemies, making them easier targets for other allies. Alternatively, the Bow Knight offers increased mobility, but the Sniper's focus on ranged accuracy and criticals als better with Niles' strengths.
A crucial aspect of building Niles is managing his accuracy. While Gamble provides a significant critical boost, the -10 hit penalty can be problematic. Investing in units that grant him support bonuses, such as Elise or Camilla, can help offset this. Additionally, using skills like Certain Blow, if available through inheritance or re-classing, can provide a substantial hit bonus. Failing to address his accuracy can lead to frustrating misses, especially against high-evasion enemies. His role as a ranged attacker means he should generally be kept behind front-line units like Arthur or Benny to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
