Odin, the flamboyant and self-proclaimed dark mage, brings a unique flair and potent magical offense to your Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest playthrough. As a Dark Mage, his primary strengths lie in his high Magic and Resistance, making him effective against physically frail but magically resistant enemies. His personal skill, Dread Scroll, grants him a chance to activate his personal skill, Shadow Blood, which increases his critical hit rate and critical damage when attacking.
Odin begins as a Dark Mage, a class that wields tomes and has access to dark magic spells. His early game can be challenging due to his low HP and Defense, making him vulnerable to physical attacks. It is essential to keep him protected by more durable units like Effie or Silas, or to utilize terrain to his advantage. His high Resistance allows him to effectively counter enemy mages, such as those found in the early chapters of Conquest. His critical hit potential, especially when Shadow Blood activates, can be devastating.
Upon reaching level 10 as a Dark Mage, Odin can promote into a Sorcerer or a Dark Knight. The Sorcerer class further enhances his magical prowess, granting access to powerful spells like Ragnarok and increasing his critical hit rate. The Dark Knight class offers a more balanced approach, granting access to swords and lances, along with the Lifetaker skill, which allows him to recover HP after defeating an enemy. For a build focused on maximizing Odin's magical damage and critical hits, Sorcerer is the superior choice. Dark Knight can be considered if you want to add some melee capability and sustain.
When considering reclassing, Odin can benefit greatly from the Samurai class for the Swordmaster promotion, which grants access to the Rengoku skill, increasing critical hit damage. Alternatively, the Troubadour class for the Strategist promotion can provide access to staves, allowing him to act as a secondary healer if needed. Stat-boosting items such as the Magic Seal to increase his Magic or the Barrier Ring to further bolster his Resistance can be very beneficial. While Odin's fragility is a concern, focusing on his magical offense, critical hit potential, and pairing him with units that can provide defensive support will allow him to become a powerful offensive mage in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest.
