Silas, a Cavalier in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, is an early-game unit who excels as a durable physical attacker. His personal skill, Knight's Oath, grants him +3 Defense and +3 Resistance when adjacent to Corrin, making him a loyal and steadfast protector. His base stats lean towards HP, Strength, and Defense, positioning him as a solid frontline unit capable of taking and dealing significant physical damage.
For weapon choices, Silas benefits greatly from lances and swords. The Steel Lance is a reliable early-game weapon, offering good damage against most foes. As he progresses, the Silver Lance provides a significant power boost. If you're facing heavily armored enemies, the Javelin offers a ranged option, allowing him to contribute to combat without being directly exposed. His ability to use both weapon types upon promotion provides excellent flexibility in adapting to different enemy compositions, such as the heavily armored Knights found in Chapter 13, "The Ice Dragon."
Upon promotion, Silas has two primary class options: Paladin or Great Knight. The Paladin class offers increased movement and access to swords, further enhancing his offensive capabilities and mobility. The Great Knight class provides access to axes in addition to lances and swords, along with the Bold Stance skill, which grants him a defensive bonus when attacked. For Silas's role as a durable physical attacker, the Great Knight path is often preferred due to the added defensive utility and the ability to counter a wider range of enemy weapon types. His support options are also valuable; pairing him with units that can provide magical support or healing, like Elise, can further enhance his survivability and combat effectiveness.
A common mistake when building Silas is neglecting his magical defense. While his Defense is high, his Resistance is typically lower, making him vulnerable to magic users. Ensure he receives support bonuses or stat-ups to bolster his Resistance if facing significant magical threats. His Knight's Oath skill means he should ideally be positioned adjacent to Corrin whenever possible to maximize his defensive stats. Investing in stat-boosting items like the Dragonstone (if available) can help increase his HP and Defense, making him even more resilient. His role is that of a reliable frontline combatant who can absorb hits and dish out consistent physical damage.
