Dragonstones are a unique and powerful weapon type in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, exclusively wielded by dragon-riding units such as the Avatar (Corrin) and their dragon kin. These stones transform the user into a dragon, granting them access to potent offensive capabilities and often increased defensive stats. The primary advantage of a Dragonstone lies in its ability to deal significant damage, often with high might, and its inherent effectiveness against certain enemy types, particularly those vulnerable to dragon attacks.

The most prominent Dragonstone is the Dragonstone+, which can be acquired and upgraded. Using a Dragonstone consumes one 'Use' from the item, similar to other weapons. When a unit transforms using a Dragonstone, their appearance changes, and their stats are temporarily boosted. This transformation is crucial for engaging powerful enemies or for surviving particularly challenging enemy phases. For instance, if the Avatar is facing a formidable foe like a Master Knight or a powerful boss, transforming with a Dragonstone can provide the necessary offensive power and defensive resilience to overcome the threat.

while Dragonstones are powerful, they are not without limitations. Their 'Uses' are finite, and acquiring new Dragonstones or Dragonstone+ can be dependent on story progression, specific paralogue battles, or sometimes even enemy drops. Managing the 'Uses' of your Dragonstones is key to ensuring your dragon units remain combat-effective throughout extended campaigns. Consider the tactical advantage of transforming a unit when facing a high-threat enemy or when needing to break through a heavily fortified enemy line. The ability to switch between human and dragon forms also offers a layer of tactical flexibility, allowing units to adapt to different combat scenarios.
