Defending your Castle in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is a critical aspect of My Castle gameplay, especially when playing online or against AI-controlled invaders. When your Castle is under attack, you'll need to strategically deploy your units to repel the enemy forces. The layout of your Castle, the types of buildings you have constructed, and the placement of defensive structures all play a significant role in the outcome of these battles. Invaders will typically attempt to breach your defenses and reach your main castle. Your goal is to defeat all invading units before they achieve their objective. This often involves creating choke points, utilizing terrain to your advantage, and employing units with strong defensive capabilities or area-of-effect attacks.

The types of invaders can vary, ranging from common bandits to more specialized units. Understanding their strengths and weaknesses is key to formulating an effective defense. For instance, if you anticipate an invasion of flying units, deploying archers or units with the Bow Knight class can be highly effective. Conversely, if the invaders are heavily armored ground units, magic-users or units with high-piercing attacks will be more suitable. Certain buildings within your Castle can also provide defensive bonuses. For example, placing units near the Dragon Gate might grant them increased resistance to dragon-based attacks. The Arena can also be used defensively, as units stationed there might gain a slight combat bonus. If you are playing online, the strength of your opponent's army will be a direct reflection of their own My Castle development and unit training. Therefore, maintaining a strong and well-balanced army is crucial not only for story missions but also for deterring potential invaders and successfully defending your territory. Failing to adequately defend your Castle can result in the loss of valuable resources or even damage to your structures, setting you back in your campaign.
