Invader Battles
Invader Battles in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest represent challenging skirmishes that occur when enemy units, often from opposing factions or rogue elements, ambush your forces. These encounters are distinct from standard story chapters and can appear unexpectedly on the world map, particularly after completing certain story missions or when specific conditions are met. Unlike the predictable enemy placements in main story maps, Invader Battles can feature a more varied and sometimes unpredictable assortment of foes. For instance, you might face a squad of Nohrian Knights alongside a few rogue Outlaws, requiring you to adapt your strategy on the fly. Success in these battles is crucial for several reasons: they offer valuable experience points for your units, a chance to acquire rare items, and can even lead to recruiting new allies if certain conditions are met. A common tactic for dealing with these ambushes is to ensure your frontline units, such as Knights or Fighters, are well-positioned to intercept the invaders before they can reach your more vulnerable spellcasters like Mages or Clerics. Pay close attention to the enemy types present; a group of Pegasus Knights can be devastating if not countered by archers or units with high resistance.
The rewards from Invader Battles can be substantial. Beyond the experience gained, which is vital for promoting units like a Level 10 Corrin to a more powerful class, you might find valuable consumables such as a Vulnerary or even rarer equipment. Some Invader Battles might even present opportunities to recruit unique characters who have defected from enemy ranks. For example, a particularly tough Invader Battle might feature a lone, powerful enemy unit who, upon defeat, offers to join your cause if you meet their specific requirements, such as having a certain character present or achieving a high support level with them. It's also important to consider the risk versus reward. Engaging in too many Invader Battles without adequate preparation can lead to unit losses, which are permanent in Conquest mode unless you utilize specific in-game mechanics or DLC. Therefore, always assess your current unit strength and available resources before committing to an Invader Battle, especially if it appears to be a particularly difficult encounter involving high-level enemies like a Wyvern Lord or a powerful Sorcerer.
