Staves & Rods
The strategic deployment of Staves and Rods is paramount in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, offering crucial support and utility that can turn the tide of battle. These items are primarily wielded by dedicated Healers and Clerics, such as Elise and Sakura, and their usage is dictated by their respective 'Uses' stat and the range of the Staff. Unlike offensive weapons, Staves focus on restoring HP, curing status ailments, or providing beneficial status effects to allies.
Key Staves to master include the basic Heal staff, which restores a moderate amount of HP, and the Physic staff, which allows for healing at a greater range without needing to be adjacent to the target. More advanced Staves, like the Warp staff, can instantly transport a unit to any space on the map, enabling daring offensive maneuvers or swift rescues. The Rescue staff serves a similar purpose, allowing a unit to be moved to an adjacent allied space, which can be vital for extracting a vulnerable unit from danger.
Status-affecting Rods, such as the Silence Rod, can be instrumental in disabling enemy magic-users, preventing them from casting powerful spells. The Sleep Rod can incapacitate dangerous foes for a few turns, allowing your army to focus on other threats. It is vital to manage the limited 'Uses' of these valuable items. Prioritize healing critical damage on key units like the Avatar or Xander, and consider the strategic implications of using a Warp staff to reposition a powerful attacker or a vulnerable healer. The cost of a Staff in gold can also be a factor, so judicious purchasing from shops or acquiring them through story progression is essential. Remember that while your offensive units are crucial for dealing damage, your support units with Staves are the backbone of your army's survivability.
