Azama Build Guide
Azama, the enigmatic retainer to Hinoka, is a unique character who excels as a healer with surprisingly potent offensive capabilities, particularly through his personal skill, Soothing Chime, which grants him +4 HP recovery each turn if he is not attacked. His starting class is Monk, which promotes to Priestess or Onmyoji. For a build focused on maximizing his healing and defensive utility, promoting to Priestess is a strong choice, granting access to the Miracle skill, which offers a chance to survive a lethal blow with 1 HP. If focusing on offensive magic, Onmyoji provides access to both Tomes and Staves, along with the Magic +2 skill.
When building Azama, prioritize his Magic and Resistance stats, as these directly influence his healing output and his ability to withstand magical attacks. Stat-boosting items like the Magic Tonic and Resistance Tonic can significantly enhance his effectiveness. His primary role is healing, so ensuring he has access to potent staves like the Physic Staff (range 5) and the Rescue Staff (range 5) is crucial. For offensive capabilities, if he promotes to Onmyoji, he can utilize tomes effectively. The Fenrir Tome (12 Might, 85 Hit) or the Meteor Tome (14 Might, 70 Hit) are good options. His personal weapon, the Staff of Absolution, is a unique staff with 10 Might and 100 Hit, offering a decent offensive option if needed. Pairing Azama with units that can protect him is vital. A strong defensive unit like Silas or a Knight can act as a bodyguard, allowing him to safely use his staves or offensive magic. Units with the Rally Resistance skill can also bolster his survivability against magic-wielding enemies.
Azama's reclassification options offer some flexibility. If he reclasses into a Troubadour, he gains access to the Valkyrie class, which offers both Staves and Tomes, along with the Renewal skill, providing passive HP regeneration. However, this path is generally less optimal for his stat growth compared to his Hoshidan classes. His high HP and Resistance make him surprisingly durable against magic, and his Soothing Chime skill allows him to recover from chip damage over time. Skills that increase movement or allow him to act after healing, such as the Live to Serve skill (restores own HP by half the HP restored to allies), can greatly enhance his utility. Despite his healing focus, Azama can be a surprisingly effective offensive unit if built correctly, especially against magic-vulnerable enemies, but his low physical defense means he should generally avoid direct melee engagement.
