Core Gameplay Systems
Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation revolves around a robust turn-based combat system where players command a party of units across a grid-based map. Each unit possesses unique stats, classes, and skills that influence their effectiveness in battle. The objective in most maps is to defeat all enemy units, but some may involve specific goals like seizing a fort or protecting an NPC. A critical mechanic is the weapon triangle, where swords are strong against axes, axes against lances, and lances against swords. Understanding these relationships is vital for maximizing damage and minimizing incoming attacks. Terrain also plays a significant role, with different tiles offering defensive bonuses or hindering movement. For instance, forests provide defensive boosts, while mountains can block passage entirely.
Beyond direct combat, Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation features several interconnected systems that enhance strategic depth. The "My Castle" feature allows players to build and customize their own base, which can house shops, armories, and training facilities. These structures provide tangible benefits, such as access to powerful items, new classes, and opportunities to strengthen bonds between units. Character relationships are fostered through "Support" conversations, which can be initiated between adjacent units during battle or through the "Cafeteria" in My Castle. Higher support levels unlock powerful dual attacks and defensive bonuses when units are paired up. The Avatar system allows players to create and customize their own character, Corrin, influencing their base stats and even their potential class promotions. This deep customization extends to Corrin's relationships, allowing for unique pairings and offspring units in subsequent playthroughs.
