Azama, the "Calm Monk," is a unique character in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, known for his peculiar personality and his effectiveness as a healer and offensive staff user. He joins You on the Birthright path, offering a distinct playstyle that can be incredibly valuable if utilized correctly.

Azama's base stats lean towards high Resistance and Luck, making him an excellent candidate for tanking magical attacks. His Speed is also decent, allowing him to double some slower enemies. However, his Strength and Defense are typically quite low, meaning he should be kept away from physical attackers. His personal skill, Miracle, grants him a chance to survive a lethal blow with 1 HP, a testament to his seemingly detached nature and his ability to pull through in dire situations.

As an Onmyoji, Azama's primary role is healing and support. He excels with staves like Heal, Physic, and even offensive staves like Silence or Sleep, which can incapacitate dangerous enemies. His offensive magic is also respectable, allowing him to contribute to damage output when healing isn't immediately necessary. When promoting, Azama can become a Great Master or a Basara. The Great Master class further enhances his healing capabilities and provides access to powerful monk-exclusive skills. The Basara class offers a more offensive route, granting access to powerful offensive magic and skills, but sacrificing some of his defensive utility.

When building Azama, focus on increasing his Magic and Speed to maximize his offensive staff and spell potential. His high Luck will naturally help him avoid critical hits and activate his Miracle skill more often. Due to his low physical defense, it's crucial to position him carefully on the battlefield, keeping him behind front-line units or utilizing terrain that offers defensive bonuses.
