Chapter 20: The Dawn's Eye
Chapter 20 delves into various gameplay mechanics that influence unit management and difficulty. These include the availability of side chapters based on unit losses, different modes that alter the permanent death mechanic, and the unique Hero Skill for Red characters in Cipher, which changes the main character mid-play.
Consider the following mechanics as you progress through Chapter 20:
- Gaiden Chapters: These side chapters, similar to those in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, become accessible if you lose a specific number of units. They provide opportunities to recruit new characters, ensuring your army doesn't become too depleted.
- Casual Mode: Originating from Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, this mode removes permanent death. Any character defeated in battle will be available again in the subsequent chapter, making the game more accessible.
- Phoenix Mode: Introduced in Fire Emblem Fates, this mode is designed for new players. Defeated characters return to battle on the very next turn with full health, significantly reducing difficulty.
- Lyn's Tale: In Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Lyn's introductory chapters function as a tutorial without permanent death. Units lost here will reappear in Eliwood's/Hector's story, albeit with reduced strength.
- Cipher Mechanics: Characters from certain games in Cipher focus on swarming with cheap units. A unique mechanic for Red characters (excluding Lianna and Rowan) is the Hero Skill, which allows for a mid-play change of the main character.
