Character Recruitment
Mastering character recruitment in Fire Emblem: Three Houses is key to building a formidable army. Beyond your initial house, you can recruit students and knights from other factions. This guide details the requirements and benefits of bringing new allies to your cause, ensuring you have the best units for every battle.
Recruiting students from other houses is a crucial aspect of building your ideal team in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. While your starting students are loyal, expanding your roster with skilled individuals from the Black Eagles, Blue Lions, and Golden Deer can significantly bolster your combat effectiveness and offer diverse strategic options. Recruitment is primarily tied to your professor level and your ability to build support with potential recruits.
How Recruitment Works
To recruit a student from another house, you must meet two main criteria:
- Professor Level: Your professor level dictates the maximum rank you can achieve in various skills. Higher professor levels unlock the ability to recruit students with higher skill requirements. Aim to increase your professor level through teaching, battles, and activities during the monastery phase.
- Skill Proficiency: Each student has specific skill proficiencies (e.g., Swords, Bows, Reason). To recruit them, you must have a proficiency in that skill at or above the student's requirement. For example, to recruit Ashe (Blue Lions), who requires Bows Lv. 10 and Reason Lv. 5, you'll need to have trained your professor in those skills to at least that level.
The Recruitment Process
Once your professor level and skill proficiencies are sufficient, you can initiate recruitment during the monastery phase. Navigate to the 'Recruit' option in the 'Garreg Mach Monastery' menu. You will see a list of available students from other houses. Select a student you wish to recruit and confirm. If you meet the requirements, they will join your house immediately. There is no cost or penalty for recruiting students.
Key Recruits and Their Benefits
While most students can be recruited, some are more strategically valuable due to their unique skills or growths. Consider recruiting:
- Lysithea (Black Eagles): A powerful offensive mage with high Reason and Faith growth. Essential for any magic-heavy strategy.
- Ferdinand (Black Eagles): A strong physical attacker with good Sword and Lance proficiencies.
- Sylvain (Blue Lions): A versatile lance user with excellent Charm and good growth in Lances and Authority.
- Lorenz (Blue Lions): A unique unit who excels with both magic and lances, offering flexibility.
- Raphael (Golden Deer): A tanky physical attacker with high Strength and Defense.
- atz (Golden Deer): A skilled archer with good Dexterity and Charm, useful for support and ranged attacks.
Recruiting Knights and Other NPCs
Beyond students, you can also recruit certain knights and faculty members. These characters often have unique classes and abilities. Notable recruits include:
- Alois (Church of Seiros): A reliable axe and shield user, excellent for front-line defense.
- Catherine (Church of Seiros): A fast and powerful swordmaster, ideal for offense.
- Shamir (Church of Seiros): A highly accurate archer with a unique class progression.
Recruitment is a continuous process. As your professor level increases, more students will become eligible for recruitment. Prioritize recruiting units that complement your house's strengths and fill any tactical gaps. Remember that recruited students retain their original character arcs and dialogue, but they will fight for your chosen house.
