Achievements Guide

Welcome, Captain! This comprehensive guide will help you unlock some of FTL's most challenging achievements, providing actionable strategies and detailed steps to expand your ship roster and prove your mastery of the cosmos.

Kestrel Ship Achievements

The Kestrel, your trusty starting vessel, offers a few unique achievements that can be particularly tricky. Here's how to conquer them:

Full Crew Complement (6 Unique Species)

This achievement, requiring you to have a crew composed of six different alien species, is largely dependent on luck but can be influenced by strategic choices. There's no guaranteed method, but following these steps will maximize your chances:

  • Prioritize Crew Events: Always choose dialogue options that lead to potential crew recruitment. Look for events in Distress Beacons, Civilian Sectors, and Engi Sectors that offer new crew members as rewards.
  • Visit Stores Regularly: Stores are your most reliable source for new crew. Check every store you encounter for available recruits. While expensive, purchasing a new species is often worth the investment for this achievement.
  • Explore Diverse Sectors: Travel through as many different sector types as possible. Mantis Homeworlds are good for Mantis, Rock Homeworlds for Rockmen, Engi Sectors for Engi, and so on. This increases the likelihood of encountering events specific to those species.
  • Patience is Key: This achievement often takes multiple runs. Don't get discouraged if you don't get it on your first attempt. Focus on survival and keep an eye out for diverse crew opportunities.
  • Species Checklist: Remember the core species you'll need: Human (starts with Kestrel), Engi, Mantis, Rockman, Zoltan, and Slug. Crystal and Lanius are also possibilities if you encounter them, but the core six are generally easier to find.

Hull Repair Master (1 Hull Point to Full Health)

This achievement requires a delicate balance of risk and resource management. The goal is to drop your ship's hull to a single point, then fully repair it. Here's the most reliable strategy:

  1. Locate a Shop: The absolute most crucial step is to find a battle that is directly adjacent to a store beacon. This ensures you can immediately repair after taking damage.
  2. Engage an Enemy Ship: Pick an enemy ship that isn't too powerful but can still deal consistent damage. Early-game Rebel Fighters or Auto-Scouts are ideal.
  3. Prepare for the Kill: Get the enemy ship's hull down to 1-2 points. Charge your weapons and ensure you can deliver a killing blow instantly when needed.
  4. Disable Shields: Crucially, power down your own shields. This allows the enemy to hit your hull directly.
  5. Take Damage: Allow the enemy to fire upon your ship. Monitor your hull integrity closely. The moment your hull reaches 1 point, immediately fire your weapons to destroy the enemy ship.
  6. Jump to the Shop: As soon as the enemy is destroyed, jump to the adjacent store beacon.
  7. Repair All: At the store, select the "Repair All" option. Ensure you have sufficient scrap to cover the full repair cost. Successfully repairing from 1 hull point to full will unlock the achievement.

Pro Tip: Having a Defense Drone I or II can accidentally shoot down the incoming projectile you need to hit your hull. Power down any drones before attempting this. Similarly, avoid ships with high evasion.
