Exploiting Enemy Weaknesses
Every hostile NPC in Garry's Mod possesses vulnerabilities that can be exploited for a tactical advantage. For instance, the 'Zombie' class, while numerous and relentless, is particularly susceptible to headshots. A well-aimed shot to the head can often result in an instant kill, regardless of the player's weapon. Their slow movement speed also makes them easy targets for kiting tactics, where You can maintain distance and pick them off one by one.
The 'Antlion Guard' presents a different challenge. Its primary attack is a powerful melee slam, but it has a sificant wind-up time. You can learn to dodge this attack by rolling or strafing to the side just as the Antlion Guard commits to its strike. Following a successful dodge, the Antlion Guard is often left vulnerable for a brief period, allowing for several attacks before it recovers. Furthermore, certain weapons, like the 'Gravity Gun', can be used to pick up and throw environmental objects at the Antlion Guard, dealing additional damage and potentially staggering it.
Ranged enemies, such as the 'Hollow Soldier', often have a predictable firing pattern. Observing their reload animations or the slight pause between shots can provide windows of opportunity to advance or attack. Many of these enemies also have a weak point on their armor, often indicated by a glowing or differently colored section. Targeting these specific areas, such as the glowing core on a 'Combine Elite', can result in critical damage. For example, a standard 'Combine Soldier' might have around 100 HP, but a headshot or a hit to a weak point could deal upwards of 200% damage.
Environmental hazards can also be leveraged. Luring enemies into areas with explosive barrels or unstable structures can lead to chain reactions that damage or eliminate multiple foes simultaneously. For example, a strategically placed explosive can clear out a group of 'Zombies' that are clustered together. Some advanced players even utilize physics props with the Gravity Gun to create makeshift traps or to launch projectiles with greater force than standard firearms. Understanding these specific weaknesses and employing the right tactics can turn a difficult encounter into a manageable one.
