Ragdolls are a fundamental element of Garry's Mod, providing the animated character models that can be manipulated and posed to create dynamic scenes or characters. Understanding how to spawn and pose ragdolls is key to storytelling, character animation, and general sandbox creativity within the game.

To spawn a ragdoll, you'll first need to access the spawn menu by pressing 'Q' (by default). Navigate to the 'NPCs' or 'Player Models' tab, depending on the type of ragdoll you're looking for. You'll find several characters from different games and custom creations. Select the ragdoll you want and left-click in the game world to place it.

Once spawned, a ragdoll will typically fall to the ground due to physics. To pose it, you'll need the Physgun and often the Advanced Bone Tool addon. The Physgun allows you to pick up and move the ragdoll as a whole. However, for detailed posing, you'll want to use the Advanced Bone Tool.

The Advanced Bone Tool (often found in the Toolgun menu after subscribing to the addon) allows you to manipulate individual bones within a ragdoll's skeleton. This enables you to create complex poses, from dramatic action stances to subtle gestures. The tool typically works by clicking on a bone, then dragging to rotate or position it. You can often freeze parts of the ragdoll to prevent them from moving while you pose other sections.

Here's a step-by-step guide to posing ragdolls:

  1. Spawn a Ragdoll: Use the spawn menu ('Q') to place your desired character.
  2. Equip the Physgun: Pick up the ragdoll to stabilize it.
  3. Install Advanced Bone Tool: Subscribe to the addon and access it via the Toolgun.
  4. Use the Bone Tool: Click on individual bones and drag to pose.
  5. Freeze Limbs: Use the tool's options to lock bones in place.
  6. Fine-tune: Adjust poses for natural or dramatic effects.
  7. Weld (Optional): Use the Weld tool to permanently attach the posed ragdoll to other objects.

Mastering ragdoll posing takes practice, but it's an incredibly rewarding skill that unlocks a vast amount of creative potential in Garry's Mod.
