Wheel Tool: Creating Vehicles

The Wheel Tool in Garry's Mod is a fundamental component for any aspiring vehicle creator. It allows you to attach wheels to props, transforming static objects into drivable contraptions. Mastering this tool is key to building everything from simple go-karts to complex machinery.

To use the Wheel Tool, first spawn the prop you wish to turn into a vehicle. Then, select the Wheel Tool from your spawn menu (usually found under the 'Tools' category). You'll see several wheel types, each with different properties like grip, friction, and suspension. Experimenting with these is crucial for achieving the desired handling characteristics.

Steps to Create a Basic Vehicle:

  1. Spawn a Chassis: Choose a prop that will serve as the base of your vehicle (e.g., a car body, a flatbed, or even a bathtub!).
  2. Select the Wheel Tool: Open the spawn menu and find the Wheel Tool.
  3. Place Wheels: Click on the surface where you want a wheel to be. You'll see a preview of the wheel. Adjust its position and orientation as needed. Repeat for all desired wheels.
  4. Connect Wheels: Use the 'Weld' tool or 'Rope' tool to firmly attach the wheels to your chassis prop. Ensure they are securely connected.
  5. Add a Driver Seat: Spawn a 'Driver Seat' entity and weld it to your chassis, typically in a position where a driver would sit.
  6. Test Drive: Enter the driver seat and attempt to control your creation. Adjust wheel properties, mass, and connections as needed for better performance.

Advanced users can further enhance their vehicles by using the 'Thruster' tool for propulsion, the 'Hinge' tool for steering mechanisms, and the 'Engine' tool for more complex power systems. The 'Constraint' tool can also be used to create more realistic suspension systems.

The creativity in vehicle building is immense. You might find yourself inspired by real-world vehicles, or you might create something entirely unique, like a flying bathtub or a wheeled tank. The key is to experiment with different prop combinations, wheel settings, and tool configurations to achieve your desired outcome.
