Elemental Resonance
Elemental Resonance is a powerful team-building mechanic in Genshin Impact that grants significant buffs to your party based on the elemental composition of your active characters. Understanding and strategically utilizing Elemental Resonance can dramatically improve your combat effectiveness, whether you're tackling challenging domains, exploring the open world, or facing tough bosses.
How Elemental Resonance Works
To activate an Elemental Resonance, you need to have a specific combination of character elements within your four-person party. The buffs provided by Elemental Resonance are always active as long as the conditions are met, affecting all characters in your party (unless specified otherwise).
You can view your current Elemental Resonance bonuses by navigating to the "Party Setup" screen. In the bottom left corner, you'll see icons representing the active resonances. Hovering over these icons will display a tooltip detailing the specific buffs.
Elemental Resonance Types and Strategies
Here's a detailed breakdown of each Elemental Resonance, along with actionable strategies for incorporating them into your team compositions:
- Fervent Flames (Pyro x2):
- Effect: Affected by Cryo for 40% less time. ATK increased by 25%.
- Strategy: This is one of the most universally powerful resonances for damage-focused teams. The 25% ATK bonus is a flat increase that benefits almost any damage dealer. Pair two Pyro characters like Xiangling (off-field damage) and Bennett (healing and ATK buff) with a main DPS of any element for a significant power spike. For example, a "National Team" variant often includes Xiangling, Bennett, Xingqiu, and Sucrose, leveraging Fervent Flames for massive damage output.
- Soothing Water (Hydro x2):
- Effect: Affected by Pyro for 40% less time. Max HP increased by 25%.
- Strategy: Ideal for characters whose abilities scale with HP, such as Hu Tao, Yelan, or Zhongli. This resonance significantly boosts their damage and/or shield strength. For example, a team with Hu Tao and Yelan will benefit greatly from the increased HP, enhancing both their personal damage. It also provides a nice survivability boost for the entire team.
- Shattering Ice (Cryo x2):
- Effect: Affected by Electro for 40% less time. Crit Rate increased by 15% against enemies that are Frozen or affected by Cryo.
- Strategy: A cornerstone for Freeze compositions. Pair two Cryo characters, such as Ganyu (main DPS) and Diona (shielder/healer), with a Hydro applicator like Mona or Xingqiu. The 15% Crit Rate bonus is invaluable, allowing you to focus on Crit Damage and ATK% artifacts. This resonance also synergizes incredibly well with the 4-piece Blizzard Strayer artifact set, which grants additional Crit Rate against Cryo-affected or Frozen enemies.
- High Voltage (Electro x2):
- Effect: Affected by Hydro for 40% less time. Superconduct, Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Quicken, Aggravate, and Hyperbloom have a 100% chance to generate an Electro Elemental Particle. CD of this effect: 5s.
- Strategy: Excellent for teams that rely heavily on Elemental Reactions and require consistent Energy Recharge. The guaranteed Electro particles help fuel Energy-hungry Electro characters like Raiden Shogun or Keqing. Pair an Electro main DPS with an Electro support (e.g., Fischl, Yae Miko) to maximize particle generation and reaction damage. This is particularly potent in Aggravate/Spread teams with Dendro characters.
- Impetuous Winds (Anemo x2):
- Effect: Decreases Stamina Consumption by 15%. Increases Movement SPD by 10%. Shortens Skill CD by 5%.
- Strategy: While not directly increasing damage, Impetuous Winds offers unparalleled utility for exploration and combat fluidity. The reduced stamina consumption is a godsend for sprinting, climbing, and gliding, especially in areas like Sumeru or Fontaine. The Movement SPD and Skill CD reduction are also beneficial for maintaining rotations and dodging. This resonance is often used in "double Anemo" teams featuring characters like Kazuha and Sucrose for powerful crowd control and elemental shredding, making the utility bonuses a welcome addition.
- Enduring Rock (Geo x2):
- Effect: Increases shield strength by 15%. Additionally, when a character is protected by a shield, the following effects will take place: DMG dealt increased by 15%, dealing Geo DMG to an enemy will decrease their Geo RES by 20% for 15s.
- Strategy: The cornerstone of Geo-centric teams. This resonance transforms shielded characters into formidable damage dealers. Pair two Geo characters, ideally one being a strong shielder like Zhongli or Noelle (C6), with a Geo DPS like Arataki Itto or Navia. The 15% DMG increase and Geo RES shred are massive buffs for Geo damage. Even non-Geo DPS characters can benefit from the general DMG increase while shielded.
- Sprawling Greenery (Dendro x2):
- Effect: Elemental Mastery increased by 50. After triggering Burning, Quicken, or Bloom reactions, all nearby party members gain 30 Elemental Mastery for 6s. After triggering Aggravate, Spread, Hyperbloom, or Burgeon reactions, all nearby party members gain 20 Elemental Mastery for 6s. The aforementioned effects cannot be stacked.
- Strategy: Essential for any team built around Dendro reactions. The initial 50 EM is a solid boost, but the additional EM from triggering reactions is where this resonance shines. Pair two Dendro characters, such as Nahida (off-field application) and Alhaitham (main DPS), with Hydro and/or Electro characters to consistently trigger reactions. This resonance significantly amplifies the damage of reactions like Hyperbloom, Burgeon, Aggravate, and Spread.
- Protective Canopy (Any 4 Unique Elements):
- Effect: All Elemental RES increased by 15%. Physical RES increased by 15%.
- Strategy: This resonance is a purely defensive option, offering a flat resistance boost across the board. It's generally less preferred for optimized combat due to the lack of offensive benefits compared to other resonances. However, it can be useful for new players or in situations where survivability is paramount, such as facing enemies with diverse elemental attacks or when you lack strong healers/shielders. It encourages a more varied team composition but sacrifices specialized buffs.
Optimizing Your Team with Elemental Resonance
When building your team, always consider the Elemental Resonance you want to activate. It's not just about having powerful individual characters, but how they synergize through these bonuses. For example:
- If your main DPS is a Pyro character, prioritize two Pyro characters for Fervent Flames.
- If you're running a Freeze team, two Cryo characters for Shattering Ice are almost mandatory.
- For Dendro reaction teams, Sprawling Greenery is a must-have for maximizing reaction damage.
Experiment with different combinations in the "Party Setup" menu and observe the buffs to find the perfect balance for your playstyle and the challenges you face.
