Embarking on your journey as Jin Sakai can be daunting, especially with the Mongol invasion threatening Tsushima. To ensure your survival and success, understanding some fundamental principles and adopting effective strategies early on will make a significant difference. This section provides essential tips for new players.

Master the Standoff

The Standoff is a crucial mechanic that allows Jin to initiate combat with a powerful opening strike. Hold the attack button to ready your katana, then release it precisely as the enemy lunges. A successful Standoff can instantly defeat weaker enemies or significantly damage stronger ones, giving you a vital advantage. Practice this technique against the initial waves of enemies to hone your timing.

Embrace Stealth and Ghost Tactics

While Jin is a skilled samurai, direct confrontation isn't always the wisest approach. Utilize stealth to thin enemy numbers before engaging. Use tall grass for cover, perform assassinations from above or behind, and employ Ghost Weapons like Kunai and Smoke Bombs to disorient and eliminate foes silently. The "Ghost" playstyle is often more efficient and less risky.

Utilize Resolve for Healing and Special Moves

Resolve is your most valuable resource in combat. It's gained by successfully parrying attacks, performing Standoffs, and landing hits. Spend Resolve to heal yourself when your health is low, or to unleash powerful special techniques unlocked through the skill tree. Prioritize healing when necessary, but don't hesitate to use Resolve for devastating attacks when the opportunity arises.

Explore and Liberate

The island of Tsushima is vast and filled with opportunities. Don't rush through the main story. Take time to explore the diverse regions, discover hidden shrines, hot springs, and other points of interest. Liberating Mongol camps and outposts not only provides valuable resources and experience but also weakens the enemy presence in an area, making future travel safer. Each liberated region often yields a significant reward.

Upgrade Your Gear and Skills

As you progress, you'll earn Legend points and Technique points. Use Legend points to unlock new combat skills and Ghost Weapon abilities. Use Technique points to upgrade your existing skills and weapons. Visit the Sakai Estate and other safe havens to upgrade your armor, which provides defensive bonuses and unique perks. A well-equipped and skilled Jin is far more likely to survive the trials ahead.
