Side Quests & Activities
Ghost of Tsushima offers a wide array of side quests and activities beyond the main story. These include character-specific tales, one-off NPC missions, and Mythic Tales, which reward players with unique abilities or special armor. Engaging with these activities is essential for upgrading Jin's abilities and exploring the island of Tsushima.
Mythic Tales
Mythic Tales are special side missions given by musicians across the island. They often culminate in boss battles and reward players with powerful abilities or unique armor. There are seven Mythic Tales in total.
- The Heavenly Strike: Unlocks a very useful ability.
- The Curse of Uchitsune: This is the second painting-driven Mythic Tale, initiated by speaking to Yamoto at Hiyoshi Springs. Players must comb a stretch of coast for blue flowers, located in the middle of the area. The final search area involves following a trail of flowers up a hill and through rock formations to find the Longbow on an altar. After taking it and fighting a Tengu Demon, the bow is yours.
- The Legend of Tadayori
- The Unbreakable Gosaku: This tale can be started from Akashima Village. To acquire the armor, speak to Yamoto near Rusting Bend River, then follow the wind to a grove with violets. Climb this grove and mountain to receive a painting. From the mountain, head towards bright orange trees in the distance. During combat, protect Yamoto from enemies with flashing red skulls by taking them out quickly. Deal with archers from a distance using a bow or projectile to prevent them from overwhelming you. Stay close to Yamoto. After clearing enough enemies, the armor is yours. Next, head to a grove of white trees, visible from the Shrine, to clear more Mongols. The final hostage will direct you to Shigenori's Rest, where you will encounter the final group of Mongols.
Legend Progression
Legend in Ghost of Tsushima represents Jin's level. There are 11 ranks, each granting technique points to upgrade Jin's abilities. Legend is gained by completing Main quests, Side quests, Mythic Tales, and liberating Mongol territories. Saving civilians encountered in the world also provides small amounts of Legend. Achieving the 11th and final rank unlocks an achievement.
Archery Challenges (Iki Island DLC)
A new activity introduced in the Iki Island DLC. Players must shoot paper lanterns with a bow within a time limit. To earn a bronze, all lanterns must be shot within 22 seconds. There are 8 Archery Challenges; 7 are shown on the map, and the 8th is hidden and required for the 'Common Courtesy' Achievement.
