Resource Management
Effective resource management is the backbone of success in Gloria Victis, whether you're a seasoned veteran or a fresh recruit. From crafting essential gear to fortifying your guild's stronghold, understanding how to acquire, process, and utilize resources efficiently will give you a significant edge. This section will guide you through the intricacies of resource gathering, processing, and strategic stockpiling.
Gathering Raw Materials
The world of Gloria Victis is rich with natural resources, but knowing where to look and what tools to use is crucial. Always prioritize gathering in safe zones or with a group, as resource nodes are often contested.
- Wood:
- Tool: Any Axe (e.g., Basic Axe, Iron Axe).
- Locations: Abundant in forested areas across all starter zones (e.g., Audunstede Forest for Midlanders, Mereley Woods for Ismirs, Leaktown Forest for Sangmar). Look for mature trees.
- Strategy: Focus on areas with high tree density. Consider gathering Birch Logs and Oak Logs early on, as they are used in many basic crafting recipes.
- Stone:
- Tool: Any Pickaxe (e.g., Basic Pickaxe, Iron Pickaxe).
- Locations: Found in mountainous regions, rocky outcrops, and caves. Good early spots include the hills around Ravenspeare (Midland), the cliffs near Longshore (Ismir), and the rocky terrain surrounding Tahos Hill (Sangmar).
- Strategy: Stone nodes often yield Flint and Limestone, essential for early tools and construction.
- Ore:
- Tool: Any Pickaxe.
- Locations: Scarce compared to stone, typically found in deeper caves, mines, and specific mountainous veins. Early game, look for Copper Ore veins in the Mine of Serpent (Midland), Northern Mine (Ismir), or Southern Mine (Sangmar). Higher-tier ores like Iron Ore and Steel Ore are found in more dangerous, contested territories.
- Strategy: Ore nodes are often guarded by NPCs or other players. Always be prepared for combat.
- Fibers/Hides:
- Tool: Skinning Knife (e.g., Crude Skinning Knife).
- Locations: Acquired by skinning dead animals.
- Strategy: Hunting is a good way to gain both combat experience and valuable crafting materials. Always carry a skinning knife.
Processing Raw Materials
Raw materials are rarely useful on their own. They must be processed at specific crafting stations to become usable components.
- Logging and Sawmilling:
- Raw Material: Birch Logs, Oak Logs, Pine Logs.
- Processing Station: Sawmill (found in major cities like Audunstede, Mereley, Birch Planks, Oak Planks, Pine Planks. Used for construction, weapon handles, and furniture.
- Mining and Smelting:
- Raw Material: Copper Ore, Iron Ore, Steel Ore.
- Processing Station: Smeltery (found in major cities and player-built workshops). Requires Charcoal or Coal as fuel.
- Output: Copper Ingots, Iron Ingots, Steel Ingots. Essential for metalworking, armor, and advanced tools.
- Tanning and Weaving:
- Raw Material: Boar Hide, Wolf Hide, Bear Hide (for tanning); Flax (for weaving).
- Processing Station: Tanning Rack (for hides), Loom (for fibers). Both found in cities and workshops.
- Output: Leather, Thick Leather (from hides); Linen Thread, Linen Fabric (from flax). Used for light armor, clothing, and various crafting components.
Strategic Stockpiling and Storage
Efficient storage is vital to prevent loss and ensure resources are available when needed.
- Personal Inventory: Limited space, best for active gathering and immediate crafting needs.
- Chests (Player Housing/Guild Castles):
- Location: Inside your personal player housing (if owned) or within your guild's controlled castles/forts.
- Capacity: Varies by chest type and upgrade level. Wooden Chests offer basic storage, while Reinforced Chests provide more slots.
- Security: Items in personal chests are generally safe. Guild chests are accessible to guild members with appropriate permissions.
- Strategy: Organize your chests. Dedicate specific chests to raw materials, processed components, and finished goods. This saves time when crafting.
- Guild Storage (War Chests):
- Location: Within guild-controlled territories (castles, forts, economic buildings).
- Capacity: Often very large, designed for communal resource pooling.
- Security: Controlled by guild permissions. Be mindful of who has access to deposit and withdraw.
- Strategy: Contribute excess resources to the guild war chest to support collective efforts like castle upgrades, siege equipment, and guild crafting projects.
- Marketplace Trading:
- Location: Auction House in major cities.
- Strategy: If you have an abundance of a particular resource, consider selling it on the marketplace to acquire resources you lack or earn some Denars. Conversely, if you're short on a specific item, the marketplace can be a quick way to acquire it, though often at a premium.
Tips for Efficient Resource Management
- Prioritize Tools: Always ensure you have high-durability gathering tools. A broken tool means lost gathering time.
- Repair Regularly: Repair your tools and armor at a Repair Station in cities or workshops to maintain their effectiveness.
- Skill Up: Invest skill points into relevant gathering and crafting professions. Higher skill levels increase gathering yield, crafting quality, and reduce stamina consumption.
- Stamina Management: Gathering consumes stamina. Carry Food and Water to replenish it, or plan your gathering routes to include rest stops.
- Group Gathering: Gathering with guildmates or friends provides safety in contested zones and can increase overall efficiency through shared protection and resource hauling.
- Hauling Capacity: Be mindful of your character's carrying capacity. Consider using a Mount or a Cart (if available in your guild's territory) for large hauls.
- Know Your Needs: Before heading out, identify what resources you specifically need for your current crafting or building projects. This prevents aimless gathering.
- Contested Zones: While dangerous, contested zones often contain rarer and more valuable resources. Weigh the risk versus reward carefully.
