As Huang Lee navigates the treacherous streets of Liberty City, enhancing his capabilities is crucial for survival and success. Unlike previous GTA titles, Chinatown Wars offers a unique system for improving Huang's core stats and unlocking powerful advantages. These upgrades are primarily tied to completing specific side activities and collecting hidden items.

Health Upgrades

Increasing Huang's maximum health is paramount for enduring firefights and surviving longer during missions. There are two primary methods to boost your health:

Hidden Camera Destruction: Throughout Liberty City, numerous security cameras are strategically placed. Destroying these cameras not only reduces the presence of the Triads but also directly contributes to Huang's health upgrades.
- Strategy: Keep an eye on your minimap for red camera icons. When you approach a camera, aim and shoot it until it explodes. Some cameras are well-hidden, often on rooftops, alleyways, or elevated platforms. use the in-game map to track your progress and identify areas with remaining cameras.
- Rewards: Every set number of destroyed cameras will grant a permanent increase to Huang's maximum health. The more cameras you destroy, the tougher Huang becomes.
Rampage Completion: Participating in Rampages, marked by skull icons on your map, also contributes to health upgrades. These timed challenges require you to eliminate a certain number of gang members or destroy vehicles within a given time limit.
- Strategy: Before starting a Rampage, ensure you have a good supply of ammunition and body armor. Choose weapons appropriate for the challenge (e.g., SMGs for crowd control, Shotguns for close-quarters).
- Rewards: Successfully completing Rampages will often reward you with health increases, alongside cash and weapon drops.

Body Armor Upgrades

While not a direct "ability" in the traditional sense, upgrading your body armor capacity is a critical defensive enhancement. This allows Huang to carry more protective gear, making him more resilient to damage.

Collect Hidden Stash Houses: Scattered across Liberty City are various hidden stash houses. Discovering and interacting with these locations will often unlock the ability to purchase higher-capacity body armor from Ammu-Nation stores.
- Strategy: Explore every nook and cranny of the city. Stash houses are often unmarked on the initial map and require careful observation to find. They can be in secluded alleys, under bridges, or behind buildings.
- Rewards: Each discovered stash house contributes to unlocking better body armor options. Once unlocked, visit any Ammu-Nation to purchase the upgraded armor.

Weapon Proficiency

Huang doesn't have a traditional "skill tree" for weapon proficiency. Instead, his effectiveness with weapons improves through consistent use and by acquiring better weapon types. The true upgrade here lies in your arsenal and understanding weapon strengths.

Ammu-Nation Purchases: Regularly visit Ammu-Nation stores to purchase new and more powerful weapons, as well as ammunition. As you progress through the story, more advanced weaponry will become available.
- Key Weapons to Prioritize:
  - SMG: Excellent for close-to-medium range combat and dealing with multiple enemies.
  - Shotgun: Devastating at close range, ideal for tight spaces and vehicle destruction.
  - Assault Rifle: A versatile weapon for most combat scenarios, offering good range and damage.
  - Grenades/Molotovs: Essential for clearing out groups of enemies or destroying vehicles quickly.
Drug Dealing Profits: Engaging in the drug dealing mini-game is the most efficient way to earn money for weapon purchases. The more you deal, the more cash you accumulate, allowing for a fully stocked and powerful arsenal.
- Strategy: Monitor drug prices across the different districts using your PDA. Buy low, sell high. Be aware of police presence and rival gang activity.

Vehicle Handling & Durability

While Huang himself doesn't directly upgrade vehicle stats, certain actions and vehicle choices significantly impact your driving experience and survivability on the road.

Armored Vehicles: Seek out and acquire armored vehicles. These special vehicles offer significantly increased durability against gunfire and collisions, making them invaluable for high-star chases or difficult missions.
- Locations: Armored vehicles like the Rhino tank or the Patriot (armored SUV variant) can sometimes be found during specific missions or by reaching higher wanted levels. The Hellenbach GT, while not armored, is a fast and durable sports car. Keep an eye out for these rare spawns.
- Strategy: Once acquired, store these vehicles in your safe house garage for future use. They are invaluable for tackling tough missions or simply cruising with less worry.
Driving Skill: Practice makes perfect. The more you drive, the better you'll become at navigating Liberty City's streets, performing evasive maneuvers, and escaping police pursuits. There's no specific "driving skill" stat, but your personal proficiency will grow.

By focusing on these specific activities and making strategic choices, Huang Lee will transform from a fresh-off-the-boat gangster into a formidable force in Liberty City's criminal underworld.
