Understanding the Wanted Level System

Your wanted level is indicated by stars at the top of your screen, ranging from 1 to 6. Each star signifies an increased police presence and more aggressive tactics:

1 Star: Patrol cars will follow and attempt to pull you over. Easy to lose by simply driving away.
2 Stars: Police will actively pursue and try to ram your vehicle. They may exit their cars to arrest you if you stop.
3 Stars: Roadblocks appear, and police officers are more aggressive. Helicopters may start to appear, especially in open areas.
4 Stars: SWAT teams join the pursuit, deploying armored vehicles and carrying more powerful weapons. Helicopters are more common.
5 Stars: FIB (Federal Investigation Bureau) agents in black SUVs join the chase, often armed with SMGs. Roadblocks are more robust.
6 Stars: The military is deployed, bringing tanks and heavily armed soldiers. Evasion at this level is extremely difficult and often requires specific strategies.

Evasion Fundamentals

The core mechanic for reducing your wanted level in Chinatown Wars is destroying police vehicles. Each star on your wanted level corresponds to a certain number of police cars you need to destroy to remove that star. For example, to drop from 2 stars to 1 star, you'll need to destroy one police car.

General Evasion Tips:

Stay Mobile: Never stop for long, especially at higher wanted levels. Police will quickly surround and incapacitate you.
Utilize the Map: The bottom screen displays your current location and the positions of nearby police. Use this to plan your escape routes and avoid incoming patrols.
Vehicle Choice: Faster, more durable vehicles are ideal for evasion. Sports cars like the Comet or Banshee are excellent for outrunning pursuits, while armored vehicles (though rare) offer superior protection.

Specific Evasion Strategies by Wanted Level

1-2 Stars:

At these lower levels, evasion is relatively straightforward. Focus on destroying a single police car to drop a star, or simply outrun them until you're out of their line of sight.

Ramming: The easiest way to destroy a police car is to ram it repeatedly with your own vehicle. Aim for head-on collisions or T-bones.
Explosives: If you have Grenades or Molotovs, a well-placed throw can quickly take out a police car.
Environmental Hazards: Drive through gas stations or construction sites with explosive barrels to create chain reactions that destroy pursuing vehicles.
Pay 'n' Spray: If you're near a Pay 'n' Spray (marked with a spray can icon on the map), driving through it will instantly remove all wanted stars for a small fee. This is the fastest way to clear your wanted level at any star rating.

3-4 Stars:

Police become more aggressive, and roadblocks are a significant threat. You'll need to be more strategic in your approach.

Targeting Roadblocks: When approaching a roadblock, aim for the gaps between cars or try to ram the weakest police vehicle to create an opening. Avoid getting boxed in.
Helicopter Evasion: Helicopters are a nuisance. If you have a powerful weapon like an SMG or Assault Rifle, you can shoot down the helicopter. Otherwise, drive into tunnels or under bridges to break their line of sight.
Subway System: The subway tunnels are an excellent escape route. Drive your car onto the tracks (if possible) or run on foot. Police vehicles cannot follow, and the trains provide cover.
Weaponry: At these levels, having an SMG or Assault Rifle is highly recommended for quickly dispatching police on foot or damaging vehicles.

5-6 Stars:

These are the most challenging wanted levels. Evasion becomes a desperate fight for survival against FIB agents and the military.

Tank Strategy (6 Stars): If you reach 6 stars, tanks will appear. They are incredibly durable and their cannons are devastating. Your best bet is to acquire your own tank (if available through missions or cheats) or use extremely powerful explosives like Rocket Launchers to destroy them. Otherwise, focus on outrunning them and finding a Pay 'n' Spray as quickly as possible.

The Pay 'n' Spray

The cost increases with your wanted level. Always know the locations of the nearest Pay 'n' Spray when engaging in risky activities.

Police Bribes

Occasionally, you might find Police Bribes scattered around the city (represented by a police star icon). Driving over these will instantly remove one wanted star. These are particularly useful when you're close to losing your wanted level or need a quick reprieve during a chase.
