Side Mission Locations & Triggers
Beyond the main story of Huang Lee's quest for vengeance and power, Liberty City offers a plethora of side missions that provide additional challenges, lucrative rewards, and unique gameplay experiences. This section details how to find and trigger these activities, along with strategies to master them.
Rampages
Rampages are timed challenges where Huang must eliminate a set number of gang members or destroy vehicles using specific weapons. Success often requires quick thinking, effective weapon management, and knowledge of the terrain.
- Trigger: Look for a large, glowing skull icon on your radar and mini-map. Driving into this icon will initiate the Rampage.
- Strategy:
- Weapon Proficiency: Each Rampage provides a specific weapon (e.g., Minigun, Flamethrower, Grenades). Familiarize yourself with its effective range and rate of fire.
- Crowd Control: For weapon-based Rampages, try to group enemies together for maximum efficiency. Grenades and Molotovs are excellent for this.
- Vehicle Destruction: If the Rampage involves destroying vehicles, prioritize those that are stationary or easy to corner. Use explosives or high-damage firearms.
- Escape Routes: Always have an escape plan. If your health gets low, retreat to cover or grab a health pickup if available in the area.
- Practice Makes Perfect: Don't be discouraged by failure. Learn enemy spawn points and optimal attack angles with each attempt.
- Rewards: Completing Rampages earns you cash and contributes to your 100% completion.
Drug Dealing
Drug dealing is a core mechanic in Chinatown Wars, allowing Huang to buy and sell various narcotics across Liberty City's districts. This is a primary source of income and a crucial activity for financial success.
- Trigger: Drug dealers are marked by a green dollar sign ($) icon on your radar. They can be found in various neighborhoods, often in alleys or secluded spots.
- Mechanics:
- Supply and Demand: Prices for different drugs fluctuate based on the district. A dealer in one area might buy a drug for a high price that you purchased cheaply elsewhere.
- Drug Types: There are several types of drugs, including Heroin, Cocaine, Ecstasy, Acid, Weed, and Downers. Each has its own price range and demand patterns.
- "Hot" and "Cold" Deals: Dealers will occasionally offer "hot" deals (high selling price) or "cold" deals (low buying price). These are indicated by a red upward arrow or a blue downward arrow next to the drug on the dealer's menu. Always capitalize on hot deals and avoid cold ones unless absolutely necessary.
- Police Attention: Carrying large quantities of drugs or engaging in frequent deals can attract police attention. Be prepared for chases or have a quick escape route.
- Strategy:
- Map Knowledge: Learn which districts commonly offer low buying prices for certain drugs and high selling prices for others. For example, Algonquin might be good for selling Cocaine, while Bohan could be a good place to buy Weed.
- Inventory Management: Upgrade your stash capacity at your safehouses as soon as possible to carry more drugs and maximize profits.
- Vehicle Choice: Use a fast, durable vehicle for drug runs to outrun the police and quickly navigate the city.
- Safehouse Usage: Utilize your safehouses to store drugs and avoid losing your inventory if busted or wasted.
- Rewards: Significant cash earnings, which are essential for purchasing weapons, vehicles, and safehouse upgrades.
Gang Wars
Gang Wars are turf battles where Huang must eliminate waves of rival gang members to claim territory for his Triad. These missions are dynamic and can be quite challenging.
- Trigger: After progressing through the main story, you'll start to see areas on your map highlighted in red, indicating rival gang territory. Driving into these areas and engaging enemies will often trigger a Gang War. Alternatively, some specific missions will introduce you to the Gang War mechanic.
- Mechanics:
- Waves of Enemies: You'll face multiple waves of increasingly difficult enemies.
- Weapon Drops: Enemies will often drop weapons and health pickups, which are crucial for survival.
- Territory Control: Successfully completing a Gang War will turn the contested territory green on your map, signifying your control.
- Strategy:
- Come Prepared: Before initiating a Gang War, ensure you have full health, body armor, and a good selection of weapons (e.g., Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Grenades).
- Utilize Cover: Use environmental cover to your advantage. Duck behind cars, walls, or other obstacles to avoid incoming fire.
- Prioritize Threats: Focus on enemies with more dangerous weapons first, such as those with automatic rifles or Molotovs.
- Vehicle Advantage: Sometimes, using a vehicle to run over early waves of enemies can be effective, but be mindful of it getting destroyed.
- Health Management: Conserve health pickups for when you truly need them. Don't be afraid to retreat slightly to grab one if the situation allows.
- Rewards: Cash, increased respect for the Triads, and control over territory, which can sometimes lead to passive income.
Stunt Jumps
Liberty City is filled with opportunities for daredevil stunts. Successfully completing these jumps requires speed, precision, and the right vehicle.
- Trigger: Stunt Jumps are not explicitly marked on the map until you discover them. They are typically ramps, broken bridges, or natural inclines that allow a vehicle to become airborne for a significant distance.
- Strategy:
- Fast Vehicle: A sports car or motorcycle is almost always required for successful stunt jumps. The faster, the better.
- Clear Approach: Ensure a long, clear run-up to the jump to build maximum speed.
- Angle of Approach: Sometimes, the angle at which you hit the ramp is as important as your speed. Experiment with different approaches.
- Landing: Try to land on all four wheels (or two for a motorcycle) to avoid crashing and failing the jump.
- Rewards: Cash and progress towards 100% completion.
Hidden Packages (Lion Statues)
Scattered throughout Liberty City are 100 hidden Lion Statues. Collecting these provides various benefits and is essential for full completion.
- Trigger: There is no specific trigger; you simply need to find and interact with them. They are small, golden lion statues.
- Strategy:
- Exploration: Thoroughly explore every nook and cranny of Liberty City. Check rooftops, alleys, under bridges, and behind buildings.
- Sound Cues: As you get close to a Lion Statue, you might hear a subtle jingling sound, indicating its proximity.
- Online Maps: If you're struggling, consult an online map guide for the precise locations of all 100 statues.
