Types of Vehicles:

  • Cars: The most common vehicle type, ranging from slow sedans to fast sports cars. Different cars handle differently.
  • Motorcycles: Faster and more agile than cars, but offer less protection. Good for weaving through traffic.
  • Boats: Used for navigating the waterways around Liberty City. Essential for some missions.
  • Helicopters: Provide aerial transportation and a unique perspective of the city. Can be found at helipads or stolen during missions.
  • Emergency Vehicles: Police cars, ambulances, fire trucks. Can be used for Vigilante missions or to escape the police.

Acquisition:

Most vehicles are acquired by simply stealing them from the streets. Some unique vehicles can be found in specific locations or unlocked through missions. You can store personal vehicles in your safehouse garage.

Repair & Customization:

  • Pay 'n' Spray: Drive a damaged vehicle into a Pay 'n' Spray garage to repair it and, if you have a wanted level, remove it.
  • No Customization: Unlike later GTA titles, GTA IV does not feature extensive vehicle customization beyond repairs and color changes at Pay 'n' Spray.

Tips:

  • Always choose a fast and durable car for missions involving chases or combat.
  • Learn to use the handbrake (Spacebar on PC) for sharp turns.
  • If you have a high wanted level, a Pay 'n' Spray is your best friend.
  • Utilize Roman's free taxi service for quick travel without driving.
