Rampages

Rampages are timed challenges scattered throughout Liberty City, marked by a glowing skull icon. Activating one will present you with a specific objective, usually involving eliminating a certain number of gang members or destroying vehicles within a strict time limit. Successfully completing a Rampage rewards you with a significant cash bonus, making them an excellent way to earn money early in the game and throughout your playthrough.

There are 20 Rampages in total across Portland, Staunton Island, and Shoreside Vale. Each Rampage can only be completed once. While some Rampages are straightforward, others require careful planning and execution. Always be prepared before initiating a Rampage:

Full Health and Armor: Ensure Toni has maximum health and armor. Pick up health packs and armor vests beforehand, or visit a Pay 'n' Spray if your vehicle is damaged.
Appropriate Weaponry: The type of weapon you need will depend on the Rampage's objective. For eliminating gang members, a powerful automatic weapon like the Assault Rifle or SMG is often ideal. For destroying vehicles, the Rocket Launcher or Flamethrower are highly effective.
A Fast Vehicle: For Rampages that require you to cover a lot of ground, a quick and durable vehicle is essential. Consider a Stinger or Banshee for speed, or a Patriot for its resilience.
Know Your Surroundings: Before starting, take a moment to observe the area around the Rampage icon. Identify potential cover, escape routes, and where enemies are likely to spawn.

Rampage Strategies

While each Rampage has its unique challenges, some general strategies apply:

Prioritize Targets: Focus on the objective. If it's to kill gang members, don't get sidetracked by civilians. If it's to destroy vehicles, aim for them directly.
Use Cover: Especially when dealing with multiple armed enemies, utilize environmental cover to protect Toni from incoming fire.
Headshots: Aim for headshots to quickly dispatch enemies and conserve ammunition.
Vehicle Tactics: If the Rampage involves destroying vehicles, try to group them together for maximum splash damage with explosives. If you're using a vehicle for protection, be mindful of its health.
Don't Be Afraid to Fail: Rampages can be tough. If you fail, learn from your mistakes, re-equip, and try again. The skull icon will reappear, allowing for unlimited attempts.

Example Rampage Walkthrough: Portland Docks

a common early-game Rampage located in the Portland Docks area, often found near the Callahan Bridge entrance.

Location: Look for the skull icon on the pier just south of the Callahan Bridge entrance in Portland.
Objective: Eliminate 25 Triad members using the Shotgun.
Preparation:
- Ensure Toni has full health and armor.
- Acquire a Shotgun and plenty of ammunition. If you don't have one, check the Ammu-Nation in Harwood or look for a police car to acquire one.
- Consider having a fast car parked nearby for quick getaways if needed, though this Rampage is primarily on foot.
Strategy:
- Activate the Rampage icon. Triad members will begin spawning in the immediate vicinity and on the surrounding docks.
- The Shotgun is powerful at close range. Try to engage enemies in tighter spaces or as they approach you.
- Utilize the shipping containers and crates for cover. Pop out, fire a few shots, and duck back in to reload or avoid damage.
- Keep an eye on your radar for incoming enemies. They will be marked as red dots.
- Don't stand still for too long; move around the area to find new targets and avoid being overwhelmed.
- If your health gets low, look for any health pickups that might spawn, or retreat slightly to find a safer spot.
- The Triads often carry pistols or SMGs, so their fire can add up quickly. Prioritize taking down groups efficiently.
Reward: Successfully completing this Rampage will net you a significant cash reward, typically around $10,000.
