Side Missions & Activities Overview
Beyond the main storyline, Liberty City Stories offers a wealth of side missions and activities that not only provide additional entertainment but also reward you with cash, weapon unlocks, and even property. Engaging with these diversions is crucial for achieving 100% completion and for truly mastering the streets of Liberty City. This section will guide you through each type of side activity, offering strategies and locations to maximize your success.
Vehicle-Based Side Missions
These missions are initiated by entering specific vehicles found around the city. They often involve timed objectives or specific tasks related to the vehicle's function.
- Taxi Driver:
- How to Start: Enter any Taxi.
- Objective: Pick up passengers and deliver them to their destinations within a time limit.
- Strategy: Learn the city's shortcuts and avoid major traffic arteries. The more consecutive fares you complete, the higher your multiplier and earnings. Completing 100 fares (not necessarily consecutive) unlocks the Taxi Driver outfit and a Bulletproof Taxi at the Portland Safehouse.
- Paramedic:
- How to Start: Enter an Ambulance.
- Objective: Rescue injured citizens and transport them to the hospital before they bleed out.
- Strategy: Prioritize patients based on their distance and current health. The ambulance is durable, but avoid unnecessary collisions. Reaching Level 12 unlocks Infinite Sprint for Toni and a Health pickup at all safehouses.
- Firefighter:
- How to Start: Enter a Fire Truck.
- Objective: Extinguish vehicle fires and burning pedestrians across the city.
- Strategy: The water cannon has a limited range, so position your truck carefully. Be mindful of exploding vehicles. Completing all Firefighter missions (across all islands) makes Toni fireproof.
- Vigilante:
- How to Start: Enter any Police Car, Enforcer, or FBI Car.
- Objective: Hunt down and eliminate criminals marked on your radar.
- Strategy: Use the police vehicle's siren to clear traffic. For tougher targets, ramming them off the road before opening fire is effective. Completing Level 12 increases Toni's armor capacity to 150.
- Trashmaster:
- How to Start: Enter a Trashmaster.
- Objective: Collect garbage bins from designated locations within a time limit.
- Strategy: This mission is a race against the clock. The Trashmaster is slow, so plan your route efficiently and avoid damaging the vehicle too much. Completing all Trashmaster missions unlocks a money bonus and a health pickup at the Portland Safehouse.
Unique Jumps & Rampages
These activities challenge your driving skills and combat prowess, offering substantial rewards for completion.
- Unique Jumps:
- Objective: Locate and successfully complete 26 unique jumps scattered throughout Liberty City.
- Strategy: Look for ramps, broken bridges, and other structures that seem designed for launching vehicles. A fast car or motorcycle is usually required. Successfully landing a jump will trigger a slow-motion cinematic and a cash reward. Completing all 26 unlocks a Bulletproof Patriot at the Portland Safehouse.
- Rampages:
- Objective: Pick up a skull icon to start a timed mission where you must eliminate a certain number of gang members or destroy vehicles using a specific weapon. There are 20 Rampages in total.
- Strategy: Each Rampage provides a specific weapon and a target. Conserve ammo, use cover, and be aware of your surroundings. Some Rampages are easier with a vehicle. Completing all Rampages unlocks unlimited ammo for certain weapons at your safehouses.
Collectibles
Scouring the city for hidden items is a classic GTA pastime, and Liberty City Stories is no exception.
- Hidden Packages:
- Objective: Find all 100 Hidden Packages spread across Portland, Staunton Island, and Shoreside Vale.
- Strategy: These packages are often tucked away in alleys, on rooftops, or in obscure corners. Each package grants a small cash bonus. Collecting a certain number of packages unlocks weapon spawns at your safehouses:
- 10 Packages: Pistol
- 20 Packages: Shotgun
- 30 Packages: Grenades
- 40 Packages: SMG
- 50 Packages: Body Armor
- 60 Packages: Flamethrower
- 70 Packages: Sniper Rifle
- 80 Packages: M4
- 90 Packages: Rocket Launcher
- 100 Packages: $100,000 and a Rhino Tank at the Staunton Island Safehouse.
Other Activities
- Bike & Car Sales:
- How to Start: Look for the "Sales" icons on your map, typically near garages.
- Objective: Deliver specific vehicles to a buyer within a time limit, often with damage restrictions.
- Strategy: Drive carefully to avoid damaging the vehicle, as this will reduce your payout. Some missions require you to steal the vehicle first.
- Avenging Angels:
- How to Start: Find the "AA" icon on your map, usually in gang-controlled territories.
- Objective: Protect a group of pedestrians from attacking gang members.
- Strategy: Stay close to the pedestrians and eliminate all threats quickly. Use powerful weapons and body armor. Completing all Avenging Angels missions unlocks the Avenging Angels outfit.
- RC Car Races:
- How to Start: Look for the RC car icon on your map.
- Objective: Race remote-controlled cars against other RC vehicles.
- Strategy: These races test your driving precision. Learn the track layouts and use boosts strategically. Winning earns you cash.
- Pay 'n' Spray:
- Purpose: Changes your vehicle's color and removes wanted levels up to 2 stars.
- Location: Marked by a spray can icon on the map.
- Cost: $100.
- Ammu-Nation:
