Scrapyard/Crusher Locations
While not a primary mission objective, utilizing the vehicle crushers found across Liberty City can be a lucrative side activity, especially early in the game when cash is tight. Each crushed vehicle yields a cash reward, making it an excellent way to earn some extra dough and dispose of unwanted rides. There are two main crusher locations in Liberty City Stories, one accessible in Portland and another in Shoreside Vale.
Portland Island Crusher
The first crusher you'll encounter is located on Portland Island, specifically in the Saint Mark's district. This is often the most convenient crusher during the early to mid-game stages.
- Location: Head to Saint Mark's, the area directly north of the Callahan Bridge. The crusher is situated within the industrial complex, usually identifiable by its large, mechanical press and piles of scrap metal. Look for it near the docks and warehouses.
- Directions:
- From the Callahan Bridge entrance in Portland, drive north on the main road (Portland Beach).
- Take the first major left turn into Saint Mark's.
- Follow the road as it winds through the industrial area. The crusher will be on your right, often visible from the road.
- Strategy: This crusher is ideal for disposing of vehicles you acquire in Portland. Consider using it after completing missions that leave you with a damaged or unwanted car. The payout is consistent regardless of the vehicle's condition, so even a beat-up Blista Compact can net you some quick cash.
Shoreside Vale Crusher
As you progress through the game and unlock Shoreside Vale, a second crusher becomes available. This one is particularly useful for later missions and for clearing out the more expensive vehicles found in this affluent district.
- Location: The Shoreside Vale crusher is found in the Pike Creek industrial area. This is the same general vicinity as the airport and the military base.
- Directions:
- From Francis International Airport, head west towards the industrial zone of Pike Creek.
- Look for large warehouses and industrial buildings. The crusher is typically located in an open yard area, often with other industrial machinery.
- Alternatively, if coming from the Staunton Island bridge, follow the main road into Shoreside Vale, then take a right towards Pike Creek. The crusher will be on your left as you navigate the industrial roads.
- Strategy: This crusher is excellent for vehicles like the Patriot, Enforcer, or even more common cars like the Sentinel or Manana that you might find in Shoreside Vale. Since the area is also home to the military base, you might even be able to crush a Rhino tank (though getting one there intact is a challenge!). Remember, the cash reward is per vehicle, so bringing multiple cars to crush in one trip can be efficient.
General Crusher Tips
- Vehicle Condition: The condition of the vehicle does not affect the payout. A pristine car and a smoking wreck will yield the same amount of cash when crushed.
- Vehicle Type: While all vehicles can be crushed, the payout is generally fixed per vehicle, not based on its value. Don't expect more for a high-end sports car than a basic sedan.
- Earning Potential: Crushing vehicles is a reliable, albeit repetitive, way to earn money. It's particularly useful if you're low on cash and need to buy weapons, armor, or pay for mission restarts.
- Disposing of Evidence: Need to get rid of a car used in a crime? The crusher is your best friend. Drive it in, watch it get flattened, and walk away clean.
