Cleaning the Hood

This mission sees you and Ryder taking on the Ballas in a direct assault to reclaim Grove Street territory. Preparation is key here, as you'll be facing multiple enemies in close quarters. Make sure you're well-armed and ready for a fight.

Pre-Mission Preparation

  • Weaponry: Before starting, ensure you have a good supply of ammunition for your preferred weapons. The 9mm Pistol is standard, but a Shotgun or SMG will make this mission significantly easier. You can purchase these at Ammu-Nation stores located throughout Los Santos.
  • Armor: If your armor is low or depleted, consider picking up a fresh vest. There's usually one available near the police station in Pershing Square, or at various hidden locations.
  • Health: Grab some food from a Cluckin' Bell or Burger Shot if your health isn't full.

Mission Walkthrough

  1. Meet Ryder: Head to Ryder's house in Grove Street to initiate the mission. He'll be waiting outside.
  2. Drive to the Balla Territory: Ryder will drive you to the targeted Balla territory. Pay attention to his dialogue; it often provides subtle hints about the upcoming encounter.
  3. The Initial Assault:
    • Once you arrive, you'll be tasked with clearing out the initial group of Ballas. They're usually positioned around the entrance to the alleyway or near parked cars.
    • Strategy: Use cover effectively. The parked cars and walls provide excellent protection. Prioritize enemies with automatic weapons.
    • Weapon Choice: A shotgun is highly effective at close range against these initial enemies.
  4. Entering the House:
    • After clearing the street, Ryder will instruct you to enter a specific house where more Ballas are holed up.
    • Caution: Expect immediate resistance upon entering. There will often be enemies waiting just inside the doorway or around corners.
    • Tactics: Pie-slicing corners and using quick bursts of fire can be very effective. Don't rush in blindly.
    • Item Location: Keep an eye out for health pickups or weapon drops from fallen enemies inside the house.
  5. Clearing the Backyard:
    • Once the house is clear, you'll proceed to the backyard. This area often has more Ballas, sometimes positioned on higher ground or behind obstacles.
    • Engagement: Use the environment to your advantage. Walls, crates, and even trees can provide cover.
    • Ryder's Role: Ryder will assist you, but don't rely solely on him. He can be a good distraction, but you're the primary damage dealer.
  6. The Final Stand:
    • The last group of Ballas will typically be in a more open area or a final building. This can be the most challenging part of the mission.
    • Recommended Approach: If you have grenades or Molotovs, this is a good opportunity to use them to flush out entrenched enemies.
    • Health Management: If your health is low, retreat to cover and wait for it to regenerate slightly, or seek out any remaining health pickups.
  7. Mission Complete: Once all the Ballas in the designated area are eliminated, the mission will conclude, and you'll have successfully "cleaned the hood."

Post-Mission Tips

  • After completing this mission, the Grove Street Families will have a stronger presence in the area. This means fewer Ballas will spawn there, making it a safer zone for CJ.
  • This mission is a good indicator of your combat readiness. If you struggled, consider improving your Weapon Skill by practicing at a shooting range or engaging in gang wars later in the game.
