Maximize your potential for a smoother criminal career.
Skill System & Development
Grand Theft Auto V introduces a skill system that allows players to improve the core attributes of Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. These skills directly impact gameplay, making your characters more effective in various situations. Developing these skills is crucial for tackling tougher missions and achieving 100% completion.
The Seven Core Skills
Each of the three protagonists possesses seven core skills that can be leveled up:
- Stamina: Governs how long a character can sprint, swim, or cycle before becoming fatigued.
- Shooting: Affects weapon accuracy, reload speed, and the size of your ammo clip.
- Strength: Increases melee damage and the ability to withstand more damage from melee attacks. It also impacts how far you can throw objects.
- Stealth: Improves your ability to move undetected by enemies and reduces the noise you make while sneaking.
- Flying: Enhances aircraft handling and maneuverability.
- Driving: Improves vehicle handling, allowing for sharper turns and better control at high speeds.
- Special Ability: This unique skill for each character (Michael's bullet time, Franklin's driving focus, Trevor's rage mode) can be charged faster with higher skill levels.
How to Improve Skills
Skills are improved through consistent use. The more you perform an action related to a skill, the more it will increase. Here are some specific methods:
| Skill | Methods of Improvement |
|---|---|
| Stamina | Sprinting, cycling, swimming. The longer you do it, the more it increases. |
| Shooting | Using weapons at Ammu-Nation shooting ranges, completing shooting-related missions, or simply engaging in gunfights. |
| Strength | Engaging in melee combat, playing tennis, or using the arm-wrestling mini-game. |
| Stealth | Sneaking past enemies without being detected. This is best practiced during specific stealth missions. |
| Flying | Flying planes and helicopters. Completing flight school challenges sificantly boosts this skill. |
| Driving | Driving vehicles, especially during races or by performing stunts. Completing driving school challenges is also effective. |
| Special Ability | Using the character's special ability frequently. For Franklin, this means using his driving focus; for Michael, his bullet time; and for Trevor, his rage mode. |
Protagonist-Specific Skill Development
While all characters can develop all skills, each protagonist starts with a base level in certain skills that al with their background. Franklin, for instance, begins with higher Driving and Special Ability stats due to his street racing experience. Michael has a head start in Shooting and Special Ability due to his past. Trevor's initial strengths lie in Flying, Driving, and Special Ability. Focus on developing the skills that complement their natural aptitudes for the most efficient progression.
