Arrests Random Event
The "Arrests" Random Event is a recurring scenario in Grand Theft Auto V that offers players an opportunity to intervene in a police pursuit and potentially earn a cash reward. This event typically involves a suspect being apprehended by the Los Santos Police Department (LSPD) or Blaine County Sheriff's Department (BCSO), and your actions can either aid the police or help the suspect escape.
Event Trigger and Locations
This event can be encountered at various locations across Los Santos and Blaine County. While specific spawn points aren't fixed, common areas include:
- Downtown Los Santos: Often seen near the Pillbox Hill Medical Center or around the maze of streets in Little Seoul.
- Sandy Shores: Frequently appears on the main roads leading into and out of the town, particularly near the Sandy Shores Airfield.
- Paleto Bay: Can occur on the main highway or side roads within the town limits.
The event is usually signified by flashing police lights and the sound of sirens, often accompanied by a small crowd of onlookers. You'll typically see one or two police cruisers with a suspect already in custody or actively resisting arrest.
Intervention Strategies and Outcomes
Option 1: Aid the Police (Recommended for Cash Reward)
This is the most straightforward and rewarding approach. Your goal is to ensure the suspect remains in police custody.
- Observe the Scene: Approach cautiously. Sometimes the suspect is already subdued, other times they are actively fighting.
- Neutralize the Threat (if necessary): If the suspect is resisting arrest or attempting to flee, you can intervene.
- Non-Lethal Takedown: The most effective method is to use a non-lethal approach. A quick punch (melee attack) or a shove will typically incapacitate the suspect, allowing the police to re-secure them.
- Vehicle Intervention: If the suspect attempts to escape in a vehicle, you can use your own vehicle to block their path or ram them. Be careful not to damage police vehicles excessively, as this can turn the police against you.
- Firearms (Use with Caution): While you can shoot the suspect, this is generally overkill and can sometimes lead to a wanted level if not executed precisely. Aim for non-lethal shots if possible, or only use firearms if the suspect is armed and poses a direct threat to the police.
- Maintain Distance: Once the suspect is secured, back away from the scene. Do not linger or continue to interact with the police.
- Collect Reward: After a short delay, you will receive a cash reward, typically $250. This reward will appear as a notification on your screen.
Option 2: Help the Suspect Escape (Not Recommended for Rewards)
While possible, aiding the suspect generally does not yield any positive rewards and will almost always result in a wanted level.
- Engage Police: You will need to directly attack the police officers to free the suspect. This will immediately trigger a wanted level.
- Free the Suspect: Once the police are incapacitated or distracted, the suspect may attempt to flee. There is no guarantee they will offer you any reward or even acknowledge your help.
- Escape the Wanted Level: You will then need to evade the police, which can be a significant challenge depending on your current location and resources.
Note: There are no known instances where helping the suspect escape results in a monetary reward or any other tangible benefit. This option is primarily for role-playing or if you wish to intentionally cause chaos.
Important Considerations
- Wanted Level: Be mindful of your actions. Attacking police officers directly will instantly give you a wanted level. Even accidental damage to police vehicles can sometimes trigger one.
- Character Specifics: All three protagonists (Michael, Franklin, and Trevor) can participate in and receive rewards from this event.
- Replayability: The "Arrests" event is repeatable, meaning you can encounter it multiple times throughout your playthrough and earn the cash reward each time.
- Weapon Choice: For aiding the police, a simple melee attack is often the safest and most effective method to subdue the suspect without escalating the situation.
