Chase Thieves Country Random Event

The "Chase Thieves Country" random event is a recurring scenario in Grand Theft Auto V where you'll encounter a victim of theft in the Blaine County wilderness. Your objective is to recover their stolen briefcase and return it for a reward. There are two distinct variations of this event, each with slightly different locations and thief behavior. Successfully completing either variant contributes to your 100% completion checklist.

General Strategy for Both Variants

  • Vehicle Choice: A fast vehicle with good off-road capabilities (like an SUV, truck, or even a dirt bike) is highly recommended. The thieves often drive off-road or on unpaved paths.
  • Weaponry: While not strictly necessary to kill the thieves, having a reliable weapon (Pistol, SMG, or Assault Rifle) can make stopping their vehicle easier, especially if you aim for the tires.
  • Minimap Awareness: Pay close attention to your minimap. The thieves will be marked as a red blip, and the stolen briefcase will appear as a blue blip once dropped.
  • Reward: Successfully returning the briefcase to the victim will net you $100.

Variant 1: Great Chaparral/Route 68

This variant typically occurs in the vicinity of Great Chaparral, often near Route 68. The victim will be standing by their car, visibly distressed, and will call out for help as you approach.

  1. Initiation: Drive past the victim, who will be on the side of the road, usually near a damaged or stopped vehicle. They will yell about their stolen briefcase.
  2. The Chase: The thief will be driving a white Declasse Granger. They will immediately speed off-road, heading towards the hills and dirt tracks north of Route 68.
  3. Stopping the Thief:
    • Vehicle Takedown: The most straightforward method is to ram their Granger repeatedly until it's disabled or the driver bails out.
    • Tire Shots: Aiming for the tires with a weapon (e.g., a Carbine Rifle) will quickly disable their vehicle and force them to stop.
    • Driver Elimination: If you prefer, you can shoot the driver directly, causing the vehicle to stop.
  4. Retrieving the Briefcase: Once the thief's vehicle is stopped or they are incapacitated, the briefcase will be dropped on the ground. It will appear as a blue blip on your minimap. Drive over it or walk to pick it up.
  5. Returning the Briefcase: Head back to the victim. They will be marked with a blue character icon on your minimap. Simply drive or walk up to them with the briefcase in your possession to complete the event and receive your $100 reward.

Variant 2: Harmony/Grand Senora Desert

This version of the event takes place further north in the Grand Senora Desert, often around the Harmony area, near the Redwood Lights Track or the Bolingbroke Penitentiary.

  1. Initiation: You'll find the victim near their vehicle, usually a white Declasse Granger, on a dirt road or isolated stretch of highway. They will flag you down and explain their situation.
  2. The Chase: The thief in this variant drives a black Declasse Granger. They will attempt to escape by driving off-road into the desert terrain, often heading towards the sandy areas or rocky outcrops.
  3. Stopping the Thief:
    • Aggressive Ramming: Use your vehicle to repeatedly ram the thief's Granger. Be prepared for them to try and evade you through the uneven desert landscape.
    • Weaponized Approach: Shooting out the tires is highly effective in the open desert. A few well-placed shots from an Assault Rifle will bring their chase to a swift end.
    • Driver Neutralization: Eliminating the driver will also stop their vehicle, allowing you to retrieve the briefcase.
  4. Retrieving the Briefcase: After the thief's vehicle is stopped, the briefcase will be dropped. Collect it by driving over or walking to the blue blip on your minimap.
  5. Returning the Briefcase: Locate the victim on your minimap (blue character icon) and return the briefcase to them to claim your $100 reward.
