Getaway Driver Random Event
This random event offers a unique opportunity to earn some quick cash and potentially influence future heist outcomes. It involves assisting a pair of bank robbers in their escape. While seemingly straightforward, a successful getaway requires careful planning and execution.
Event Trigger and Location
The "Getaway Driver" random event can be found in the city of Los Santos, specifically near the Pacific Standard Public Deposit Bank in Downtown Vinewood. Look for two individuals, usually dressed in dark clothing, standing anxiously near a parked vehicle, often a Declasse Premier or a similar four-door sedan. They will typically be arguing or looking around nervously. Approaching them will initiate the event.
Walkthrough Steps
- Initiate the Event: Drive or walk up to the two individuals near the bank. A prompt will appear to offer them a ride. Accept the offer to begin the getaway.
- The Pickup: Once you accept, the two robbers will quickly enter your vehicle. Immediately after they get in, a 3-star Wanted Level will be triggered.
- The Escape Route:
- Initial Objective: Your primary goal is to lose the police pursuit. The game will mark a general area on your mini-map where you need to escape to.
- Strategic Driving:
- use alleys and side streets to break line of sight with police cruisers.
- Avoid main roads where police presence is heavier.
- Consider using Franklin's special ability (if playing as him) for precise maneuvering through traffic and tight spots.
- If your vehicle is taking heavy damage, look for opportunities to switch to a new, undamaged car once you've gained some distance from the police.
- Avoiding Helicopters: Police helicopters can be particularly troublesome. Drive into tunnels, under bridges, or into multi-story parking garages to temporarily evade their spotlight.
- The Drop-Off: Once you've successfully lost the Wanted Level, a new destination will appear on your mini-map. This is the drop-off point for the robbers, usually a secluded location like a warehouse or an abandoned lot in East Los Santos or El Burro Heights. Drive them to this location.
- Payment and Reward: Upon reaching the drop-off point, the robbers will exit your vehicle and thank you. They will then pay you a sum of cash, typically between $5,000 and $10,000.
Tips for Success
- Vehicle Choice: Before initiating the event, ensure you are in a fast, durable, and preferably four-door vehicle. A fully customized sports car or a sturdy sedan like the Obey Tailgater can make a significant difference.
- Pre-Planning: Familiarize yourself with the surrounding area of the Pacific Standard Public Deposit Bank. Knowing nearby alleys, tunnels, and potential hiding spots can give you a crucial advantage.
- Weapon Readiness: While not strictly necessary for the getaway itself, having a weapon equipped can be useful if you accidentally crash and need to deal with pursuing officers on foot.
- Character Choice: Playing as Franklin can be advantageous due to his special ability, which allows for slow-motion driving and enhanced control, making it easier to weave through traffic and evade police.
- Don't Engage: Your objective is to escape, not to fight. Avoid shooting at police unless absolutely necessary, as it will only escalate your Wanted Level and make the escape harder.
Impact on Heists
Successfully completing this random event is crucial if you plan on undertaking the "The Bureau Raid" or "The Big Score" heists later in the game. The getaway driver you assist in this random event will become an available crew member for these heists. Hiring this specific driver can significantly reduce the take cut for other crew members, potentially increasing your overall profit. Remember their name and face, as they will appear in the crew selection screen for the relevant heists.
